i don`t get any particular error message, for instance if i want to install adobe reader x, my installation stops along the way and tells me that it can`t contact reliable source, if i want to install avg free along the way my installation stops and tells me that some files are missing, if i right click on my task bar the option to select my task manager does not function.

Unto itself, viruses are rare when directly looking at the wifi router. When a computer can't contact a reliable source that means that the computer has a flaky or unstable connection (akin to out of range or static on the FM transmitter on your favorite radio station)
Windows PC's have some very very dumb drivers and some will force the card into 802.11b mode by default which is not supported as well by the newest routers. (because it's a really old and slow transmission standard) I can demo how to enable "g" mode also.
Are you having 20 connections to a single home-level wifi router? (if so, that is your problem) Especially if this isn't a MIMO router...
Questions-
What version of windows are on all of your 20 computers? Or do you have mac/linux too?
What is the make/model of the wifi router(s) in question
What is the speed/provider of your internet connection?

I've seen more than my share of viruses but not one that is being driven from the router. My first suggestion would be to turn off the router. Boot each system as a stand alone in safe mode. Run any onboard anti virus programs on each. Before turning the router back on. If that doesn't pick up on the problem then a hard reset or set to default is needed by the router. Who is the ISP? MacAfee has a super home network setup and will help you to detect and track down infected nodes. Withh AT&T we get the whole thing for free on a DSL. Loads of monitoring options and protection schemes. I am do hate the oversight but I guess that's the price you pay for that piece of mind. Keeping track of every device, wired and wireless by MAC number will help you to setup a MAC filter and you'll know who tries to get on besides you and prevent only the slickest of the sly from getting in, let alone plant a virus. Why fool around with a limited bandwidth when there's light lines and T-1 up and down. The router can become an invisible part of your network until something goes wrong. Once certain viruses get into a network, it infects every machine so isolation is important and not allowing infected units is the first step in keeping the network clean.

Two of the three most active viruses in the last 24 hours are worms - viruses that worm their way through your network. The network has to be disabled until all machines are cleaned up or they will be immediately re-infected. That is the nature of worms.

If you are unable to run an update and scan with your current antivirus and are being prevented from installing anything new, I would suggest booting from a rescue CD (make 20 copies) from Kaspersky:

or the Microsoft System Sweeper
