I've noticed that a lot of LED-backlit laptops I've seen seem to be more white than florescent screens, like the ones I have on my desktop, are. Do you guys notice the same thing? It gets a bit annoying when viewing text, as it's harsher on my eyes, but it makes images look more natural at times.

Not more white, just a higher color temperature. There is also the RED deficiency. Most LED backlit laptops end up missing a good deal of the red spectrum giving white a more 'bluish' or 'cool' tint.

To make the laptop screen look more like my desktop one, I had to turn the gamma down from 1.0 to 0.8. The laptop's ati settings say it's at 6500K (default), and the desktop is also at 6500K (preset, I turned down the red a tad because it made whites seem a little off).

I'm really hoping the tech the LG showed at CES will pan out quickly as they have the production facility I know they have the "55 Oled TV slated for Q3 but I would love to have a nice 20"-24" Oled monitor with that white subpixel to really make things pop.

I prefer LED-LCD monitors they have less of that yellow tinge to them. I'm not 100% sold for local dimming on a small screen unless the LEDs were smaller but that would be a nice feature.

That is a good question.

Some CCFL + matte screens are warmer/yellow and color depth and contrast ratio feels muted. (I don't like that)

The glossy screens (PC and Mac) are pretty much on an even plane, still depends on who makes it. But Mac CCFL and LED are spot-on white (glossy). For the matte screens on Mac, color toning is on the warmer side.

PC CCFL on the HP is slightly cooler in color temperature. I haven't worked with many LED PC's recently.

There are so many variables involved in the setups for each model that comparisons are almost impossible. Just like trying to pick the best HDTV in a show room. Going through the setup of each display/monitor can yield so many different appearances and backlighting can compound the the problem. In my experience, florescent backlights show a bit more greenish hue that needs some compensation to make up for that. LED backlights tend to give a more whiter white and would not as much twittling to get a pleasing display.
