Hi and welcome to the forums. This is a bit sketchy and I am assuming that the monitor takes 10 mins to come out of standby after the computer has started. If you have acess to another monitor, try it and see how that goes. You did not say if you were using onboard graphics or a dedicated video card. How long has this been happening? If it is recent, you might try a System Restore to a point before it started and see if that helps.

My monitor is hooked up to a video card with a dvi cable, I do not have access to another monitor and this problem has been happening for more than a month. when I turn on the computer power the monitor is dark and blinking but the monitor power light is green, I can hear the bootup process when the windows gets to where i type in my password i hear it going to the desktop and it takes up to 10 minutes before I can see my anything and the blinking stops

OK. If you have another Video Card try that. If not and you have an onboard graphics chipset, try that.

1. As suggested above, you could try using a VGA Cable and connect your monitor to the VGA port on the back (powered by your onboard graphics). You may also need to enable the onboard video in the BIOS.

2. Take a look at this support article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937500

Monitor problem as you discussed here some time come due to over heating problem. Some other reasons for that are:
1)First of all check your computer's security it can be happen due to virus so please check your anti virus is properly updated or not
2) Then clean your pc softly some time more dust can be a reason for that.
3)Check your hard disk it may be a reason for that.
4) Check your ram it may be a reason.
5)Some time we install a software which includes some virus so please check all newly installed programs.
6)Some time some drivers of your important Software's are not properly installed or damaged due to some reason so please check status all you important software's.

When your pc fires up just at that moment you must see the company logo? If yes, or if with any other improvisation you can reach the bios menu? In the bios menu change the boot priority to hard drive and not the cd drive or others if any...hope you come back to this thread one day anyways
