"The biggest question is whether IT can afford to wait another year before they start waving the banner."
A year?? Don't forget, the majority of the world is still on Windows XP (according to marketshare.hitslink.com). Five years from now, my company (who just moved off Windows 2000 last year) will still be happily running Windows 7 on desktops for most of its users.

In a lot of industries, tables are more of a liability than an asset. Sure, tablets are the way the world's moving -- and I'm even planning on buying a Windows 8 tablet for myself when they come out, and maybe developing some Metro apps on the side to keep my skills up-to-date. But back at work, the corporate inertia of old-school management and red tape mean that you'll be reviewing Windows 11 by the time most cubicle dwellers get Windows 8.

(Hmm.. Rereading it, my last comment sounded much more snarky than I intended! Good article all-around; thank you for the informative read! I'm just bemoaning the slow pace of change here in the corporate trenches... Anyway, interesting to see how the future's shaping up!)

"if it worked on windows 7, it will work on windows 8" not true. I have already found a couple of programs that are either dysfunctional, or will not start at all under windows 8, Corel Paintshop Pro x3 and x4, and Trillian 5.0 and 5.1 being some of those.

And MSE will install, but not update either. Let's not forget this isn't even an alpha release, but only a Developer Preview...

Speaking of BSODs, I didn't have the chance to experience it yet?

I've been using the Developer Preview for about 9 days now.

The traditional GodMode works; simply create a folder named GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} (only the extension counts)

These are the errors I encountered so far:

The Metro IE10 doesn't support Flash yet even though it is installed in the desktop version:

This page in the full desktop browser:

So far, so good. I like it.

On the radio the other night, Jimmy Connors said the best advice he ever got was from Bobby Riggs:
• do it
• do it right
• do it right now
