Ok guys, I have to admit, there are very few games coming up that excite me like Rage.

Anyone here been following this at all?
http://www.rage.com/

This sounds like one of the most interesting titles I have come across in a long time.

o OS: Win XP SP3, Vista, Win 7
o Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad or Equivalent AMD
o Memory: 4GB
o Hard Disk Space: 25GB
o Video Card: GeForce 9800 GTX, ATI Radeon HD 5550

25GB hard drive space?!
With those kinds of requirements, I am curious how my laptop is going to fair. Core 2 Quad? I can HOPE my i7 can compete there... Gefore 9800GTX?! My poor little 1000M has 1/2 the cores, and about the same memory bandwidth.

While in the mission a game mechanic was shown off using a defibrillator when you’re close to death. There’s a mini game to accomplish this and the better you do the more health you receive when revived, not to mention it electrocutes anyone around you if you can pull it off to give you bit of a breather.

There is a hidden room for every id franchise in the game and each room mirrors how the game looked when released. The Wolfenstein room was shown off and when the door opened you walk into a small room that could have been set in the original Wolfenstein 3D with giant pixelated tiles.

Fallout meets Doom... I like it. :D

Now, to convince my wife I need a shiny new 560Ti or even a 570 to play it on...

Hmmmm, maybe. Better stick with the 560Ti, it is cheaper and maybe the wife will a bit more forthcoming. Might be a good idea to find her a toy or two as well. :D

More often than not, she does. And then her old gear gets handed to whoever wants it... Most of it still newer than many friends have.

But no one else is excited about this new release?!

I'm on the fence. Looks to be a little more shooter and a little less RPG.

That is exactly what they are going for... They are trying for something more 'active' and stimulating I think. Seems like they are trying to appeal to a wider group through better overall game play. If the Rage world is as open as they claim it is... it might be quite interesting.

In that case, my mom's laptop is ready to be replaced. Core 2 Duo ULV, 4GB DDR2, 500GB Seagate HDD, W7 HP 64-bit. (15" asus UL50AG)

Personally I tend to prefer racing games. I have some Need for Speed ones and I'm looking into Dirt 3 (probably when I buy the new GPU, as most things aren't very enjoyable with the 210). I have Portal though, kinda wierd and interesting, and Simcity 4, though that seems to not run well on most hardware. (How can a quad core i5 with a geforce 210, 8GB DDR3 and w7 hp 64 give the same performance as a machine with a 2.8GHz Pentium 4 HT, 2GB DDR, and a geforce 6200 with it?)

Not sure about the answer to your question...

But I am kinda running low on laptops at the moment...

I am sending out my MSI board in the morning for repair, then the wife gets an upgrade to either an i3 or i5... not sure which yet. She doesn't need much.

I just a notice for another DLC for Fallout: New Vegas. Heck, I am not faring well in the first one.

I am not even close to getting into that third DLC either. But the first two I have completed (prior to my new character). The first one is freaking fun, though linear as heck. The second one is much more open... but bothers me more. That and the scripting is a bit buggy at the end.

I never got it fixed from the BIOS fiasco.

I haven't had a lot of fun with it. I cheated to get in to the Casino ( hacked the lock on the front gate ). Get in to the casino and evrywhere you turn BEEP, BEEP , BEEP and if you don't go back, you explode. Having problems finding the radio trnasmitters.

If you can pick locks, there is an 'easy' way, through the cashiers office to get behind the radios, so they are easier to pop. As well as the transmitters for the holograms.

The rest of the rooms are hit or miss, just keep moving quickly, and you can often get past them... or at least I could. :D

I was just over at the Steam store viewing the videos for Rage and now I want it. It's your fault, of course. I wonder if I'm going to be able to wait until it goes on sale...

The Id folks were talking some pretty big frame rates (60+) so I doubt I'll be able to play at very high settings. My system is "OK" but what I was seeing looks like it would stress a high-end card, and I can't go higher without upgrading the PSU along with it.

Don't you just hate it when ads do that, ruining your budget in the process? You could try MSI Afterburner on your gpu - it lets you dynamically overclock the card, quite easily. You could probably run a GTX 570 on that 500W Antec PSU (nvidia recommends 550W, but waldojim said they often recommend too much).

I'm using the EVGA version of MSI's Afterburner, it's called EVGA Precision, and my card will clock up to 800 with no problems. That's probably the best I can hope for since I can't justify a new card (I just got the 460 a short while back). It's a great card and, being an nVidia card, it supports physX, which was my primary reason for upgrading from the terrific 5770 I had. Didn't hurt that it was on sale for <$100

But no one else is excited about this new release?!

I am.

That 460 should do alright for the most part. Right now, I am having trouble justifying the game. I know $60 is the norm for console games, but damnit all, I AM NOT A CONSOLE GAMER. Why should I pay the console TAX for that game?!

Yes, a little upset... There are some things in life I can try to justify... that isn't one of them. Oh well.

In either event, I am trying to find a farking house, and am trying to keep my money close for now... so no games for me until I buy a new one.

First, if that Antec PSU is an EW unit, yes, it can easily handle a 570.

Second, that recomendation they give out - as I have stated before - is to protect people from themselves. Namely those type who buy a Logisys 480W PSU for $13.
