Surprisingly, Lenovo has you covered pretty darned well!
The y560 with an i3 380m 4GB ram, 500GB hard drive and the ATI 5730 is going for 43990... not too shabby. Not a quad core, but much quicker than an AMD processor...
If you wanted to go with something a tad more powerful, for 48400 they have an i5 with an nvidia GT550m. That is the y570.

For the most part, yes. There are going to be specific examples both in favor, and against BOTH cpus in this case. The i3 is MUCH faster than AMD clock for clock. Meaning a single i3 core at 2Ghz is roughly equivalent to a 3Ghz AMD core. None of the AMD quad cores exceed 2.2Ghz, meaning that i3 @ 2.53Ghz will flat destroy MOST AMD Quad cores in lightly threaded, or single threaded applications - including most games.

With the first one, you are looking at a slightly slower graphics card (not that much really), but the quad core AMD will feel absolutely miserable in day-to-day applications. Most Single threaded / poorly threaded games are also going to suffer on that CPU. Will it be enough to be a problem? I don't know. It is hard to say exactly how a game will respond on that machine. That machine has a more than powerful enough video card though.
That second one on ebay only has an ATI 4250 - which is an integrated video card that will not handle most games. It is considerably too slow to even be playable.

So should i go for i5-2430 or AMD phenom II N950?
Intel, by far. Really, AMD is falling behind nowadays.
