Hi all, recently i've been getting warnings from my security suite that says;Performance alert High CPU usage by İnternet Explorer, and apparently it uses 97% of at least one CPU.

c:/program files/internet explorer/ iexplorer.exe

So far the only problems i have experienced is some instability of pages i happen to be reading on the internet.
That happens quite often, any suggestions as to what i could do about it if anything?

Thanks

Wait - that's iexplore.exe, right? Also, click Tools, Addons (or Extentions, whatever it is). Remove any that you are not using and restart IE.

Hi,thanks for the prompt reply

Yes,it is iexplore.exe,

and any tools or addons that i don't use are already disabled!(That's what you mean by 'remove' right?

Anything else you can suggest?

Thank you.

Hi :

My brief investigation indicates this "Message" is most
probably from a Norton program or a Comcast version of a
Norton program; is this true ? If Yes, give specific
details of the program . A good start may be to read info
on the Norton Community Forums, starting at perhaps
http://community.nor...ert/td-p/390792 .

Either your RAM is very small or IE is just garbage. More than likely the latter. I recommend Google Chrome. IE is a third rate product along with all the other products Microsoft puts out.

You can get Google Chrome here: http://www.google.com/chrome

Hi and thanks for your input,

No my RAM is not low and İE8 is NOT garbage in my opinion.

İ have researched the problem on Google apparently it seems to be quite common, from what i can see.

There are several reasons for that and i'm currently trying to figure it out.

Thanks again!

@OP

You might want to try reinstalling or repairing your installation of IE 8, after which you probably should RESET your IE settings.

Please try this and let us know if it makes any difference.

Thank you for the advice

İ did reset the İE8 Settings several months ago, without reinstalling İE8.

İ have not done that for the simple reason that İE8 is working well,

and have since realized that i only have this problem( iexplore.exe using a lot of the CPU)

ONLY on 2 sites,( news sites)and not anywhere else
so the problem is apparently not a corrupt installation of İE 8.

However i may try reinstalling İE8 sometime soon and see what if anything improves.

İ'll certainly comment on it here when i do so.

Thanks again,appreciated it.

The only problem I am having with IE8 started about 1 month ago,,,all of a sudden it hesitates when closing. It also will free up for a few seconds when searching sites. The e icon in the corner by the name changes to a white page when it happens.

Since you asked, thought to let you know that i reinstalled İE8,but the problem on the 2 news sites continued as before.

Then i read somewhere that disabling unused Active X controls may be helpful,so i disabled ESET's Online Scanner's Active X Control

and lo and behold, since then said problem disappeared, together with the often overheated top and wildly thrashing fans!

So now my iexplore.exe is behaving as it should without hogging the cpu.
İt may be worth adding that the İE8 now offered for download by M/soft is far more stable than the earlier version,so anyone having problems, while still using the earlier release of İE8,

might consider reinstalling the current offering by M/soft.

I have been experiencing the same problems (running fans, overheated (bottom), AVG security informing me of overuse). I've also noticed I have less memory than I had before. So, I too have turned off things I don't use, but I have not re-installed I8 to try to fix these issues. So I'd like to know if you think it was the disabling of the Active X only that stopped it, or that AND the re-installation? When I get off from here, I'm going straight to look at any AX's I might have running, and stop them. But I'd like to know your opinion, since you did get it fixed. Thanks.

Well, the problems you are experiencing as above could be due to a number of things.

For example if your pc is a laptop,it may have collected dust and therefore may need to be cleaned.(thrashing fans)

Overheated bottom of laptop could occur if it is regularly rested on anything other than a desk

ie on your lap,or cushion.

Re AVG you may well have the AVG Search Toolbar, check if that is causing a problem.

Re:İE8,if yor copy is quite old,you may well benefit from reinstalling,

and some Active X's may be faulty,so checking them would be helpful.

Disconnect any Toolbars and Active X's you don't need to be running all the time

you can re enable them as you need them.

That's what i do with ESET'S Active X.

One last thing i found very useful is http://support.micro...com/fixit/en-us

it will check your system for specific problems and auto fix them.( İE8,Windows,Files and folders etc.)
