If your goal is to simply add an HDMI port to your computer, consider buying a sub $20 HDMI graphics card from an online retailer. Many of these affordable cards also handle audio, so the audio will correctly pass through HDMI when connected.

Either: connect with VGA + an audio cable OR install a cheap modern graphics card. The analog to digital converter is a crapshoot and very expensive.

My PC has a HDMI port on it, and my TVs all have VGA ports on them.

To be honest if your going to be spending 2-3k on a pc or Tv you need to do your research first.

If your spending 134.00 you could have bought a video card with hdmi out. or you could have bought a cheaper usb to rca out card, or you could have just used a laptop that is older than 5 years since all of those have Svideo and most tv's had svideo at some point.

most VCRs have svideo in too.

The sentence "But be warned: While all HDTVs have VGA, they don't all handle it in a way that results in a satisfactory picture." brings up questions for me.

I would like to buy a 20-23 inch HDTV to also use as a PC monitor. What specs should I be looking for? Are there any particular brands or models that are better than others? Does anyone have any recommendations on what HDTV to buy, if you would like to use it as a monitor?

Thanks for any advice.

Some newer HDTV models don't have VGA. I just shopped for a few. If you're going to view HDTV using Windows Media Center, a digital monitor or TV must "feed back" that it's certified as a copy protected HD device. I believe HDMI equipped devices always do, though some with DVI will not. My 4-yr old 1600 X 1200 Samsung 20" monitor is not certified to display HDTV using DVI. But it can using one-way VGA at full resolution. Any monitor or TV with an HDMI input is best.
