My son bought a new x box 360 but it does not have the capability to connect to the internet. I had thought all the 360s could do this with just a subcription but apparently his does not have an internal card for it ? What do I need to get to allow him to go online and play ?

Hi Carrie and welcome to the forums. I had to look that up as I have a PS3. According to this:
" Optimized for Online
" Optimized for Online
- Instant, out-of-the-box access to Xbox Live features with broadband service, including Xbox Live Marketplace for downloadable content, gamer profile for digital identity, and voice chat to talk to friends while playing games, watching movies, or listening to music
- Built-in Ethernet port
- Wi-Fi ready: 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g
- Video camera ready " , it should have a wireless card built in. Once you start it and log into you account on the Xbox, there should be a Menu of stuff, one of which would be system. Under that, should be a sub menu with stuff such as setting date & Time and setting up the wireless and other things. Barring that, you could use an Ethernet cable from the Xbox to the Router ( not the best choice if a distance is involved ). With the PS3 it was pretty straight foward setting up the Wireless ( when I found out it had a card; I was using a 25' ethernet cable ).

On first time I read about xbox 360 without internet connection. Everywhere I read about this it's written the console is ready about online games. You say it's new check the manual there need to have a guide how to set up.

Welcome! Assuming you have the newer slim version of the 360 it is network capable out of the box. You just have to go into the system settings and get it connected to your network like any other new gear. If it is one of the older models (like mine), there is no native network card. Both units come with an ethernet port to hardwire it to the router. I used to have my xbox on the wireless, but saw a lagging that was just too much for me so I moved it and the router closer together to hardwire my xbox to the router. Depending on what speed you have on your network and the load put on the network you should be ok, but if you start to get lag while playing games, hardwire it and you'll be ok. Just make sure that your network is secured with a good password to protect you from piggybackers.
Hope this helped!
