Sim City (I've got Sim City 3000), no matter what you pack into it, will always run fine as it's a different kind of game. Superb graphics and fps are not essential here and it's never gonna be as challenging for your computer as e.g. an FP shooter. So, it's not too good an example. And if you're really into gaming you should rather buy a console.

:D Actually Oblivion looks much better on this PC than it does on my PS3 hooked up to a 42" HDTV ( I have both versions :P ).

So do you need to tighen the ram timings and overclock it more?

Yes well... me and my brother had a long debate over the values of playing Oblivion on a PC. It wasn't until I showed him how that sucker looked on a C2Q and two 8800GT's that he understood fully what I meant by night-and-day differences over an Xbox 360. Then he built his own C2Q with 3 8800GTX G92's.... damn that sucker was fast.

I have been working on ram timings, but I hit the limits of the OC. At least until I understand more about the motherboard. There is a different timing mode it goes into to break 200Mhz BCLK, and that sucker seems to be unstable. EDIT: Check spoiler for current CPU-Z results.

Got my copy of Skyrim about 3:30 this afternoon. It auto set at Ultra High will all the settings maxed out ( I think, as the AA is At 8x ) I am getting 60 FPS for the most part, although will fall off briefly to 40 - 45 FPS. Looks good although not as pretty as Oblvion in the countryside. Sort of like being in the Alps. They did make some effort on making the caves a little better and not so cookie cutter. I got to the point of of going after the Golden Claw ( which I have gotten, but I'm still in the cave ). Looks like they borrowed the lock picking thing from Fallout 3, which I think is better than what they had in Oblivion.

If you are seeing drop offs to the 45fps range, you should see how bad it hits me on the 5770 at 2048x1156!

The environment seems to be more natural that what I have seen before, even the caves. That is a huge improvement. Also water seems quite realistic. They definitely did take the lock picking from fallout, and it is certainly better for some of us, though others will say that it kills the challenge I'm sure.

I'm on my way back to Riverview with the Golden Claw for the trader. Will take some time to get there as I am over my carry weight. Tried to sell off some stuff before going out on the quest for the Golden Claw, but all the trader wanted to to do was sell and not buy, so ended up stashing a bunch of stuff in a barrel outside. I agree the scenery is well rendered to be sure. I was back in Morrowind yesterday, and was amazed at the step up in that with Oblivion, ( except the caves did look recycled ) and again they kicked it up. That snowstorm up in the mountains was something else.

There is a glitch when you are heading up to see the Greybeards. I got to one point ( someone kneeling at an altar ) and it would freeze and i would get a message that Skyrim had quit working. I had save it at the botome of the climb and did several restarts with the same results. I saved it when I saw the woman at the alter athen went to talk to her which worked and continued on with no further problems.

Have you made that long trek up there ? The more I traipse around, the more "Undiscovered" places keep popping up arbitrarily on my map ( although some are added as result of talking to someone ).

They have added a new element in that there are puzzles in this game. Found that out rather quickly. A merchant in Riverview will give you a quest to fing his "Golden Claw" up in a place called Something Barrow Run. Anyway, I thought i had cmpletely explored that cave as iI had gone to the end ( and got the claw ).. Got back and the merchant did not acknowledge that I had gotten the claw. Went back to that cave then checked my map and realized that I had not completely explored it ( it is a BIG cave).

Lately, I have not had much time for poking around any games.

Yesterday was our little ones first birthday. With family visiting, and the hectic party planning, I just have not had time for games.

Something I expect will only get worse in the next few years. :D Anyhow, enjoy the game, I will get caught back up some day, and see what you mean.

I had a very hard time staying under my carry weight in that cave... sorry sucker.

I saved it when I saw the woman at the alter athen went to talk to her which worked and continued on with no further problems.

Well that is interesting... I haven't come across that.

Have you made that long trek up there ? The more I traipse around, the more "Undiscovered" places keep popping up arbitrarily on my map ( although some are added as result of talking to someone ).

I had a very hard time staying under my carry weight in that cave... sorry sucker.

Me too and most of the time I was slogging along over weight until I got to the swinging things ( there was a cut off switch for one........ on the other side ). No choice but lighten up then. :P :D Man, hard to believe the little one is a year old already. Man does time fly.

Yes it does... way to quickly.

Seems like when you are growing up, you can't wait to be a Teenager, then it is 16 for your drivers License, then 18 to Graduate from High School, then 21. After you ahve rushed to that point, it seems to continue rushing and picking up speed. :P The older you get, the faster it goes, or so it seems. They are supposed to be releasing a patch for Skyrim the week after Thanksgiving. I think it may be for performance issues. I have noticed some items that seem to float in midair, where they should be on the ground.

And I bet once you've hit your mid 30s or so, then you're wishing you could be younger again. lol... I'm 15, but I haven't even considered getting a drivers license (I think 15 is when you can start learning). I drive too recklessly on the computer and with the RC car anyway.

Here you can get a Learner's permit at 15 Years 6 Mos. Then you have to have a ceratin amount of hours of Driver's Ed and a set amount of time behind the wheel before you can take your test for the Driver's License. They are also limited to the hours than can be on the road and how many passegers they can have in the car ( 1 I think ). From what I've seen they do pretty well for the most part. We've had far too many killed though in the past, usually drinking and driving or just being stupid and too much speed. Oddly enough, the most came from a single High School that is in the upscale area of the County. Have far too many dim witted adults on the road around here. I have seen them cut off emergency vehicles with Lights and siren going because they " had the green light ". :P

Honestly, I have also seen teens out there who drive like idiots, close calls, etc... Yes, and I am a teen saying this. Several of my classmates are already getting licenses or learning.

Time to give Skyrim a rest. It just took me at least 2 hours to get through a gate. It took me a while to figure out what to do, them much longer to do it. Probably needed to kill a few more Dragons. :P :D
