Not sure if this is right place to post this problem, so if not please advise to correct forum.
None of my son's USB ports are working. When you plug a device in it says unknown device. It says
no drivers installed, but it will not let you install drivers that is grayed out in device manger.
It shows all is well until you plug a device in then you get the unknown device.
It is a Acer desktop intel cel 430 processor with 1/2 g ram, 1.8 ghz, running win XP Pro SP3.
I've searched google and we have checked and tried just about all solutions I could find but nothing
seems to help.
It has 6 - USB Root Hub
2 USB universal host controller
1 USB Enhanced host controller
It also says USB is enabled.

any suggestion would be appreciated.

Hi. The first thing I would try is a System Restore to a point before this problem arose and see if that helps.

In device manager, try uninstalling the usb controller, then reboot.

Thanks for reply's. I've been busy and had not gotten back on them.
It had been using a USB wireless connection and of course it would
not work, so we moved it and wired direct to router and it downloaded
all the new updates and so forth that it had missed and then plugged
in a USB device and it seems that all the ports now work.Don't know
just what it might have been since let it download all night and next
morning they all worked (go figure).
Thanks again for your input.

JAJ

PS There were no restore points so that wouldn't work.
