"CPU gets pushed beyond it's meager 3.3GHz (or 3.9GHz, with Turbo Boost)"

No apostrophe.

Get over it.

Fixed! Sorry about the error--it was an oversight.

On another topic, what did you think of the other 2008 words in the story?

What are the major differences between the 3960X and the 3930X performance wise? because the .1 difference in specs is not as noticeable next to the almost 50% difference in price! :-)

Somehow I can't wait for one of these new CPU's backing an artificial intelligence machine tells me, "Back-off stupid, you're through" Don't laugh. I'm not certain it can't happen. Do we really need all this power in ordinary circumstances?

There are applications, and some particular games that seem to be very sensitive to the amount of cache on the chip. If you need the absolute fastest, that .1% difference in specs could make up about 10% more performance - if you rally need it.

That said, I have noticed the exact same trend - only testing the extreme ed.

Anyone test the lower end version?! I want to see THOSE performance numbers. I would also like to see them with the latest games that rape CPU's. BF3 is entirely GPU bound, no need for that one. But Skyrim appears to be extremely CPU sensitive. How well does a GTX 580 and the 3960 do on ultra quality settings at 2048x1156 or higher?

I building a new comp with the 3960X with cooling that should keep it in the low 30*C. I have no doubt that 5Ghz is within reach maybe more. It also has a pair of EVGA Classified GTX 570's clocked @ 1003 core/ 4000 memory , RevoDrive3X2 480GB on a EVGA X79 Classified and 4X2GB of Patriot that will run 6,6,6,18T1@1600 powered by a PSU that is certified @115 Amps/1380 watts (PC Power & Cooling Silencer 950) that all fit in a Antec GF-85. I just need EVGA to release their Mobo's and Im rdy to rock. My monitor only supports 1920X1200 so I believe I convert my DVD's to BR in half the time it takes to do it now and games will play well beyond 60fps since I can pull 80 FPS DX11 in Heaven now and over11,000 in 3DMark 11 with a i5 so I am looking for a 100%+ increase in most of the apps I run. I think Intel did a great job. I just hope they release their 8 and 10 coreversions when they said.I doent know if you noticed they have two cores disabled on these cpu's I just hope they OC as well as the 6 cores do.

I'm very jealous of the guys working at intel.. I'd love to sample some of the things they haven't released yet. It seems only a few months ago we were on the edge of 1 billion transistors. Now we're well into the 2 billion zone...
