I also use an Iron Key USB device that has Firefox builtin to the device to provide a secure tunnel while online.
Great article above...seriously!

Combofix should be used with extreme caution...one wrong move can apparently screw up your PC royally. This is prominently posted at both tech forums I frequent, The Elder Geek and Bleeping Computer.
Incidentally, both of these provide great step by step coaching through malware removal. I've used them several times.

I think there're others too, but these two are very good.

http://www.spywarere...tore-virus.html told me that after deleting the virus, wisepcdoctor should be used to repair damaged windows registry.

for virus protection I switched to MSE (after my OEM McAfee expired) plus ad-aware free, spybot s&d, malwarebytes and superantispyware. every couple of days I run a scan with one of them on a round robin cycle.

should be getting into "Safe Mode" ; other Options should
be explored before doing that . Since many of today's
"infections" seem to involve Fake/Rouge "security" programs
and they come in many different "flavors", IF you know the
SPECIFIC "Name" of that "program", it would be wise to
check for an "Uninstall Guide" on the highly regarded
BleepingComputer.com Site, specifically at
www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-___-____
where the "Name" would be put into the blank spaces .
