So the Playbook is coming down in price to $199 to match the Kindle Fire and the iPod Touch, reminiscent of HP's move with its Touchpad, although this sale isn't as drastic.
In my opinion, the playbook could be well the better buy than the Kindle because of its better hardware, GPS, and cameras, plus an update rumored around the corner. Whereas the Kindle is mostly for media comsumption, the playbook can do business as well.
So what do you all think? Is it better than the Fire, and is this another Touchpad-like fire sale?

It all depends on what you want to do with a tablet. If a Playbook will do what you need/want it to do, then it could very well be the better choice.
But, the Playbook is a dead end product most likely. This means that there likely will be very few apps developed for it. And I kind of doubt that it will be around long term at that price point as I doubt they built the thing for that amount of money...i.e. they are likely losing money selling it at that price. There is a reason why Amazon's $199 tablet lacks a lot of the hardware features and specs of those $400+ tablets.
For the Fire, while it is aimed at media consumption, you can also do "business" stuff on it. You can do Office Docs with an app like Documents to Go. Since it is an Android tablet, there are lots of apps that you can get for it and more coming every day.
So, from where I sit, if you can do what you want with the Playbook with what comes with the Playbook, then it is likely a better choice. But, if you are waiting for some apps to do certain things on the Playbook, then you could be waiting a while potentially.

Unless you root it, you're stuck with amazon's app store. I can tell you that, for sure, if I had a Kindle Fire I would root it pretty quickly.
