What’s happened to Craigslist? I recently tried to post an item for sale, got the usual email saying I needed to verify my identity, and clicked on the link. But when I entered my phone number, I got a response that it was already in use on an account and couldn’t be used now. So I went to my account, but there was nothing that let me enter or change a phone number. I tried the help link, which told me that I could delink a phone number if it hadn’t been used for 90 days (which it hadn’t), but gave no information about how to do so. The Account Settings tab has nothing about phone numbers. So I sent an email explaining the problem, but all I got was an auto-response that simply repeated the online help (useless) info. I tried searching on ‘contact Craigslist’ and got several listings that had numerous complaints from other people about this same problem. One of them offered a phone number they said would get you to a real person, but it only had an automated message stating that they couldn’t offer any support for phone verification problems (among others0.
So as it stands, I can’t post anything for sale on Craigslist, and can’t contact them to correct this. Is this something they just don’t care about? Are they working on a fix? Is there something I’m missing? It seems to me that if they want the site to be used, they should make it easy and possible to post things. I’ve looked for alternatives, but none are as popular or well-organized as Craigslist. It’s too bad they are letting a good thing go to ruin. Perhaps if PCWorld paid attention to this, they would have to respond.
