Hii there,
i used Nero to create a multi-session DVD. Burnt the first session successfully a few weeks back. When i started the 2nd session, Nero did recognize the data from 1st session. There was around 2GB of space left, so i added 1GB in the 2nd session. The burn process started but soon slowed down a lot, yet it completed but the data verification(i mostly enable this option) step completely failed. It showed a lot of read errors.
Anyways, later on i tried reading the dvd once again; everything from the 1st burn session was still readable. But as soon as i would try viewing any files from the 2nd session, the explorer window hangs up & the optical drive's light flashes rapidly. Guess it suggests the data was'nt properly burned.

So all this leaves me a bit confused. Was it a cheap faulty DVD? If yes then how come the 1st session burned properly & is still accessible? Or did i make a mistake at some step?!

What brand of disc is it? fyi, it is much more critical to have the disc clean while burning data than it is when reading data.

Hii i'm back in action !! whew that was some long trip! Anyways getting back to the topic...
About the brand.. u could call it generic 'cause there is nothing much printed on top except "DVD-R 4.7GB/16x". But these mostly serve my purpose i.e backup of data(software, videos, pictures). Plus i bought it from my regular stores that usually sells media starting from CMC, all the way up to Sony & Verbatim! And since i don't purchase in bulk (3-5 dvds at most), they just pull out a loose one from pack of 100. Now i can't complain if that has'nt got a label!!

BTW i have been going through articles that mention about media ID & how it can give info about the dvd manufacturer. Since it is coded onto the media, u would require a software like DVD identifier to read the info. I will try this & see what i can get. Meanwhile any other comments are welcome...

OK may be i overlooked a tool that i already have in my arsenal of softwares! Nero Disc Speed seems to read the media id. But i get this message every time i run the tool.

So should i enable autorun? Is there any risk?! All i want to do is get the disk info, nothing more.

Autorun - on software discs, it runs the program when you insert the disc. I like to have this disabled for security. Tools like imgburn can read that data also.

Yeah i too like autorun disabled, but i thought it was necessary to run Nero DiscSpeed. As it turns out it is'nt, if u only want to view disk info. So when i ran this tool on that corrupted dvd, this is what i found :o

I expected it to be some cheap, but to my utter surprise it turns out to be a Sony. The MID points to Daxon. Anyone got any explanations at this point??!!
Further i run this tool, another one from Nero to analyze disk tracks/sessions

Like i said the 1st track is still intact but the 2nd is a total mess!

I think Verbatim and Maxell are known to be good brands. I have a bunch of TDK CD-Rs, as well as a few RiData DVDs (used up most of them) and a ton of Maxell ones (bought that 100pk a few months ago when Frys had it for $13 or so, and haven't actually had to use it yet).

100 pack, thats way beyond my requirement! I just pick up 2 or 3 loose ones including DL that last me for several months. Yeah Verbatim is quite good, in fact all of my DVD+R(SL/DL) are from this brand. Then comes DVD-R most of which are Sony with a few from CMC Mag. I ran the Nero tool on almost every DVD that came from that store. Not one turned out to be cheap quality!
Hey, i was wondering if all varieties of DVD's support multi-session burning??
