Modelling, Design, Animation USE OF SOFTWARE AND WAYS TO BLEND DATA.

I need to use a software that will be used to make my children cartoon stories with animation characters with basic sound and characters. The need to create a sync of moving animated pictures with sound and conversation has me overwhelmed and dont know where to start? but at the same time I am ready to try out some software that is rudimentary to create and blend it with my stories. Is there something more simpler than 3D Crafter? (it need not be sophisticated).
