Suddenly, my avatar is gone. Not that it matters much, but since I'm an IT Pro who hates how the Internet has evolved into an indifferent, lying, manipulative media like every other, I couldn't help but wonder why PCWorld had decided to follow all the other industries and completely abandon any form of rational user support.

I click on "Contact Us" -- what was once (long ago) a way to communicate with someone in charge -- and was thrown into the community forums without any explanation of what to do next. Fortunately, being a pro, I knew what to do, but none of my non-IT-Pro customers would have.

I long ago dumped PC Magazine because it had become a farce. Looks like PC World is following their example.

How do I re-install an Avatar!!!???

First, I edited your final line. Name calling is not tolerated and will not help the situation anyway. Secondly, I do see an avatar as did LiveBrian. It could have been a Forum software hiccup or some such thing.

What do you mean? I see your avatar (the one next to your posts) as a picture of a guy hitting himself with a hammer.

You don't have one on your profile though.

Name calling usually isn't an effective way to get a question answered.

Normally, I wouldn't answer a post like this, but since you're an IT Pro.

Click on your nom de plume in the upper right hand corner, and select "My Settings" from the drop down. Under the big "Your Options", change over to the Profile "tab". Now, in the left hand column there are two choices. "Change Photo" and "Change Avatar". One of those is working fine, the other is not. I'd suggest updating the one that's not.

Well, I am NOT an IT Pro, but fairly good with computers, and
i have to agree with the poster.. I cannot do anything with my profile, avatars signatures, etc.
and why have a Contact Us area .... if they don't actually respond?

lol

all you cool, calm, collected know-it-alls tickle me, you always have a sassy quip of some sort, but never, ever, reply with a true solution.
if you don't know, then do not comment, and do not blame the poster for asking a question and his/her frustrations.

I am still looking for an answer, to the original question . . . anyone with an actual answer?

That's a limitation of new members, for the purpose of preventing spammers from adding links to their profiles.
