Future proofing is all about having proper abstraction between your apps an dependencies. This is where PaaS is a tremendously powerful construct. Whenever anyone from Apprenda speaks with people about future proofing, we're quick to point out that PaaS is the only true platform layer than can do a good job a future proofing. In IaaS, you're still exposed to very explicit OS details, so applications can get caught up in legacy infrastructure behavior despite being "cloud."
