They can be. There is enough there that needs to line up to be a challenge while the "prongs" are pushing against you.
If you are still having a tough time with it, step back a minute. We think better when not frustrated.

And WJ brings out a good point, while doing this and when completed, check that those "prongs" don't end up in a port or someother odd way to cause a short.

OK guys got the IO shield in. You have to put the mobo in and line it up with the shield then make sure the prongs are good. My problem was I was trying to install it with the case lying down, I put it righside up and it fit like a charm.

Also, MOBO manual says only 6 screws, and that's all I see. Currently taking a breath then putting other screws in and hooking up my GPU and wiring.

I have little cables called AC97...where do I plug those in? Also, the front panel audio and funn stuff where the heck do they go on my mobo!

Thats my front panel audio I guess, and I have to run it across the middle of my mobo and also undo pre done cable management on the back...I will just use the back of my mobo for the audio lol...come back to that later.

Guys, which way is the proper way to attach the 24 pin connector? left or right side should have the plastic snap that holds it in place?

To the left of all the blue USB Connectors should be a white connector which is the front Audio header. The Digital Connector is above that on my MOBO, but don't see it on that MOBO.

SRY I don't have time to look at your mobo and be spacific.

AC97 is front headphone and mic

Take a moment and look at the manaul.
Every asus board I've owned gave very good instructions where these points are on the mobo.

Generaly the ac 97 is mid back.
Front power/reset etc is lower right front of mobo.
Look carefully at the pins, they are identified with a small number or symbol stamp on mobo.
As well as audio, firewire, usb headers, fan headers.

Looking at the manual, find these points on the board.
Every build I do I look at the manual and digest it for some time before I build being they offer different features and bios settings choices and functions.

Ok . The Dry Run will go to the ASUS splash screen and that is it. If it does that and you hear a single beep, you did good.

Ok. Recheck the CPU Connection ( 8 Pin ) and especially the 24 pin ATX connector and make sure they are solidly plugged in.

I re placed all those connections, they are good to go. I am thinking maybe I hooked up my case wrong. Some of my molex had 2 pins instead of 4...I hooked them up to 4's...is that OK? I am not getting anything from my fans, no leds, no spinning. Other than my mothrboard and I think my RAM is also OK because there is no RAM light that's supposed to turn on if there is a problem.

Ok. Forget about the Molex, that MOBO has plenty of fan headers and you shouldn't need the Molex.

Will the disc drivers be enough/up to date enough to not cause issues?

The drivers that come with stuff are fine, but with graphics cards in particular, having the latest one can make a difference. When reinstalling, I get the latest graphics card driver, but use the audio, networking, and chipset drivers that came with the motherboard on a CD.

@Rommel - the bios is the one thing you really don't want to update too often, since those EPROMs or whatever can only be rewritten a very limited amount of times. If the power goes out while flashing or it otherwise fails, your motherboard is screwed. With drivers, worst case, you'll have to reinstall Windows, that's all.

@BluRR - on my PC, I have a Gigabyte sticker, Intel Core i5 sticker, Seasonic sticker, and windows 7 sticker that I stole off another computer. :D For the IO shield, just push along the edges and it will snap into place. If you need to remove it, stick a flathead screwdriver along the edges and it will pop out.

So my top 2 screws do not line up, (horizontally) and vertically the first 3 rows do not line up. The Mobo takes 2 screws per row inside the case on standoffs. Not sure if it is the mobo or my installation, going to try again see what happens.

This IO shield is killing me. I thought the screws did not line up but they do...just the Io shield is being a PITA.

Does your case have different markings for screws for ATX and MicroATX motherboards? How is the IO shield a PITA? I'd just line it up with the motherboard outside of the case to see which direction it goes, then in the empty case, from inside, put it on there and push it in.

It says "Vga no Input" so something is wrong with how I have my monitor hooked up...

What would be causing my monitor to not display POST? I have the monitor hooked up to the mobo in the blue monitor spot, but idk whats wrong.

Hey BLuRR, You are doing fine. That is the VGA from the graphics chipset on the processor. If you have DVI cables, change to those and hook up DVI from the Graphics Card If installed ( and probably the reason your aren't getting a signalif a card is installed ).
