Why You Should Be Excited About The Last Of Us!
source:gamercity.co.uk

Quote

So at the VGA’s last night Naughty dog revealed to us their new project, The Last of Us and we thought we would put together a list of reasons why you should already be excited about this new game. Enjoy!

The Uncharted series is without doubt one of the best looking games on the PS3 and from the looks of the trailer they aren’t holding back. You can be sure that the ruined streets of what looks to be like New York will look absolutely stunning as Naughty Dog seemed to have perfected the look and feel of ruined temples and cities can’t be that hard, can they? Naughty Dog have also said on twitter that “#TheLastofUs trailer was definitely not CG. all in-engine captures from PS3, just like Uncharted cinematics”.

I think I've already spent all the money I'll be spending this christmas season - got the new monitor ($130), and that's just about it. Yeah, I am a bit frugal sometimes, but I don't have tons of money to spend either.

I have quite a bit more desk space now (compared to 2 19" 5:4 ones). I found a little container and put the monitor on top of it to make it eye level (the stand can't adjust AT ALL).

Acer S231HL - 23", LED backlit. I just started a new thread on this: http://forums.pcworl...or-acer-s231hl/ Now, for once, I'm ahead of you on something. :D Of course, soon enough you're going to buy a bigger desk, and then a bigger monitor (or two) to beat me. :)

Two retailers drop Playstation 3 3D Display price by $100
source:examiner.com

Quote

Sony's 3D Display unit for the Playstation 3 is a sleek looking beast with some cool technlogy like SimulView which let's two players see different images full screen. However, it's also a bit expensive at $499.99. Thankfully, two retailers just knocked the price down $100 on Sunday.

Best Buy has the Playstation 3D Display for $399.99 with free shipping and the option to pick it up in store. Tax is charged though.

Meanwhile, Newegg has the Playstation 3D Display at the same price with free shipping. Tax is only applicable in select states though.

The Playstation 3D Display comes with the 24" monitor that can be hooked up to your console or PC, one pair of Sony 3D glasses and a copy of MotorStorm Apocalypse.

GameStop bundles Uncharted 3 with Playstation 3D Display with $100 discount
source:examiner.com

Quote

A handful of retailers have already dropped the price of the Playstation 3D Display this week by $100. GameStop attempts to one-up them all by including Uncharted 3 for the Playstation 3.

You can pick up the Playstation 3D Display package with Uncharted 3 for $399.99. The display comes with a copy of MotorStorm Apocalypse, one pair of Sony 3D glasses and an HDMI table.

Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg and the SonyStyle store have also dropped the price of the Playstation 3D Display.

It's still unclear if this is a permanent price drop or a special sale at this point but the inclusion of Uncharted 3 leads us to believe that this is a limited time sale price. We'll know for sure next week if the price moves back up or stays the same.

Metal Gear Solid Rising Lead Platform is PlayStation 3
source:andriasang.com

Posted Image

Quote

The Metal Gear Rising making of video that debuted yesterday showed the game being controlled via an Xbox 360 controller, prompting some speculation that Xbox 360 is the game's lead platform -- that is, Platinum Games is developing the game first on Xbox 360. This is not the case, according to Atsushi Inaba, producer on the Platinum side of the collaboration.

Inaba clarified the situation today via Twitter. For Bayonetta, Platinum developed only the Xbox 360 version. The PS3 version was handled externally. However, starting with Vanquish, Platinum has been handling both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of their games. Games are developed on an internal Platinum-developed engine, and PS3 is always the lead platform. However, the specs remain the same between the two versions.

The reason we saw Xbox 360 controllers in the making-of video is because that's what they use to control the game on the PC they use for cross platform development. The Xbox 360 controller is the only official option here. Inaba said that it would be nice if someone would make an official PS3 solution as well.

"So, in closing, Metal Gear Rising's lead platform is also PlayStation 3," finished Inaba's series of Tweets on the matter.

In case you missed it yesterday, you can view the making-of video here.

Demon's Souls Gets (A Little) Easier This Holiday
source:gameinformer.com

As Atlus continues to support Demon's Souls' online play by keeping the servers alive, the publisher announced a Pure White World Tendency event starting today.

Players who log online in North America will face enemies that are easier to kill in addition to areas previously inaccessible. The event runs through January 2, 2012.

Atlus announced in September it will keep the servers online into 2012, though it hasn't provided an updated timetable.

Upgrade Your Broken PS3 for $99
source:goozernation.com

Sony has another good promotion going on. Trade in your old 60GB PS3 that has YLOD and for $99 they will send you a refurbed 120GB PS3. This is a win-win since it costs $150 to fix the old one.

By now most launch model PS3 20GB, 60GB, and the slightly newer 40GB and 80GB fat models have gone belly up. Even if you took the best care of them. My 60GB died in 2010, and I had it for 2 ½ years. Hey, it survived two moves and being in a college environment. Some people have been reporting that they have had luck with the 20GB, 40GB and 80GB models as well. Others have been saying they got offered the 160GB model for $99.

I have an 80Gb model that is still trucking along, in fact I been playing Two Worlds II on it today. That is a good deal for sure. my Nephew's original 60 Gb went belly up. He said it overheated and he reapplied TMC ( proabably used too much knowing him ). Didn't say anything about the fan and if that worked ( I think I remember a fan in there ). He got a new slimline 320 Gb. As for me, I may get a biger Hdd and instal it ( 7200 RPM ).

The YLOD repair is a temporary one and you'd be lucky if it became a permanent fix. I've done two repairs myself and applied thermal paste as an option. They lasted up to two weeks. The real solution is to have the old solder removed from the chips and replaced with a new application. Very difficult to do as the pins are extremely small. There is a way to do it by hand but it must be done by those with experience.

Be wary wanderer. The 7200RPM HDDs run hotter than the stock HDDs found inside PS3s. While the fat PS3 models can handle it the slims tend to overheat. I transferred my 7200 HDD from my fat to the slim. I'm going to buy a vertical stand to solve the problem.
