Those who can innovate, those who can't ape. The first earns you customers, the second scorn.

Is it metal, or plastic? The non-Apple ultra books I've picked up so far have been floppy, twisty, as a result of being so thin. The MacBook Air is thin but feels really solid.

More knockoffs from the the Wintel/Android brigade. I'm shocked. Shocked I tell you.

"and unfortunately also comes with a similar premium price tag."

Huh? You do realize that it's not possible to beat the Air's price with similar hardware, right? Manufacturers are asking Intel for a subsidy to build these things. Good on them that they managed to match the price, I guarantee they aren't making much on it.

Not trying to be offensive, but what is it with Asian companies always having these vapid, barely legal looking girls using/holding/licking their products? It seems vaguely perverted to me. Is this some cultural thing that I just don't get?

That's the point. Why would you buy a knock-off if you can get the real thing for the same price...

I'm going to put my money on Apple (Literally, I've been saving to buy one) releasing one in the Spring 2012. I think its becoming standard for the tech world to have Apple release devices first, and everyone else follow suit.

These trolls couldn't design themselves out of a paper bag. A wet paper bag, in fact. I can't wait for Apple to sue them.

I'm glad that apple are allowing other manufacturers to build macbook airs. For the moment it is more expensive and the specs are underwhelming but, being able to purchase an identical device from another manufacturer will improve competition in the market place for consumers. They have finally gotten it right. Consumers don't want a laptop that looks like an LG laptop but the closest approximation of an Apple laptop as possible.

no, that isn't the point - the point is the Air's price tag *isnt* "premium". In fact,it's so good, it can't be beaten. not for a SSD ultra thin notebook with its feature set.

You know the German word for enjoying to see other people suffer - Schadenfreude?

The German word for feeling embarrassed for others is "Fremdschämen" (or Fremdschaemen in case you can't get the ä on your keyboard)

I think it's about time we establish that term in the English language for the feeling you get when someone copies Apple products.

Is it really necessary to say that every new ultrabook “looks strikingly similar to the Apple MacBook Air”? Even the MacBook Air is a knockoff of earlier laptops running Windows, just thinner. The tendency to get thinner and thinner isn’t driven by Apple, but by Moore’s Law. Please, stop giving Apple credit for everything.

How does the model in the image barely look legal? I'm sure she's in her 20's. You should get some glasses.

A very good compliment to that woman who is almost in her mid-30's, she is who would model women who have gone to college and earned up to their PHD's and now very successful in their career.

The FBI most certainly don't have you on their pedo watch list since you fail to recognize what a barely legal Asian would look like.
