Both of my Desktops weigh 30+ lbs and that Gateway 17" laptop is bout 8 Lbs I think and is a bit bulky to carry around, although it is a mobile.

Hey Spiritwind, I'm getting too many computers arond here. I have the Gateway Desktop as well as this build I just did. Also the 17" Gateway lappy that my Mom uses ( and I just had to order some memory for ). I still moderate the "Unofficial eMachuines Forum" though. My sister needed a new destop as the one she had was way out of date ( it came with Windows Millienium installed ).

I was looking at that cooler myself. That laptop ad showed up in my mail box last night and normally I don't pay any attention to them, or much attention. When I checked it out and saw the specs & price, I decided to get it. Even without the rebate it would be a good price. I ended up getting the Moonstone White although I did like the Aqua Blue. Didn't like the red one at all.

I have a monthly "geek" budget I allow myself, and if I go over it (which I definitely did this month) I just don't have anything to dip into the next month. The way I look at it, I'm almost 62 and have been working all my adult life (and still am!), and this is one of the perks --- especially since computers are the only hobby I have that costs anything.
This time of year tho', I tend to really go nuts because I know I've got some "bonus" money coming in --- I think of it as Christmas gifts to myself.

The Corsair H80 has been getting consistently good reviews so I decided to give it a try. Installation is apparently pretty easy on an AMD board because you don't have to pull the board to install it (no back plate required). Since I don't OC (yet, anyway) my plan is to take advantage of its quiet cooling abilities. The fan settings are adjustable I can try some OC'ing later down the road when it gets to be too tempting to resist

Well, being 65, I managed to save over the years, which is helpful with my new hobby. I am on a fixed income now which is so so I guess. I manage to have money left over at the end of the month from what I draw in most months, which is essentially savings. I have no kids or grand kids ( at least none that I am aware of ) so I may as well enjoy it. Pretty much ran out of things I may want anyway..............until that 2011 socketed MOBO and Sandy Bridge extreme processor starts nagging me.

I recall I put that old dell 8200 I had on the bathroom scale and it was 25lbs. My current desktop is even heavier (2 HDs, the case outside is metal, and the case is a bit taller), so it very well could be 30lbs. With laptops 15" and bigger, I start to question the portability of the thing.

Great... even more things I need to keep track of! Hmm... coastie's overkill, way too many computers, compnovo's ssd stuff... did I get all of it?
The thing is, I guess my budget isn't as big as the ones you guys have, and I just don't really see the point of an ssd. Often, when I get home, I turn on the PC and then walk away for a few minutes to do stuff, so an ssd doesn't really help. Then when I come back, I login, and since it's already loaded must stuff, it only takes a few seconds. A WD Black is good enough. I seem to have increased the performance a little (in benchmarks) since reinstalling the OS and enabling AHCI recently.

Hmm... what I want...
1. Larger monitor (or two, or three, or four)
2. Even better gpu
3. SSD
4. New LGA2011 CPU (and of course motherboard)
5. New keyboard and mouse set (mostly for the heck of it, though occosionally the scroll wheel acts up on this one).
6. High end speaker set
7. LED light bulbs for my house
I dunno... though most of that isn't going to happen!

Yeah, I get up, turn on the computer then go get coffee, by that time it has been waitng for me to do something and for me the WD has been fine as well. I run a pretty tight budget throughout the year and manage to save enough, that I can splurge a little this time of year after my Christmas shopping is done ( if there is something that catches my fancy ). Speaking of which, I just got my Credit Card statement yesterday and wrote the check for that ( all the Christmas shopping, as I used my Debit Card for the laptop).
