Yeah, but I'd prefer to save the money, and then maybe spend it later when something else comes out that I want. And of that list, I'm only seriously considering the monitor idea (as I mentioned before, 24" or so 1920x1080).

Hey, it's Christmas. :D Maybe for Presidents Day, it'll be a 2011 Socketed MOBO and Sandy Bridge Extreme Processor or maybe I'll wait til St. Patricks day.

But isn't the 2600K machine already fast enough? Why not spend the money on a second 560ti or something, sli them, so you can get better game performance? Or get a bigger desk, and then a larger monitor.

Oh yeah. :D I barely have enough space for the desk I'm on and it is a Corner unit that isn't configured that way. It was years ago, but had to reconfigure it in its present state to make room for the Christmas tree. I'm trying to get my Mom out here in the front room so I can move my stuff back in the den. Back there I can put in a larger desk. A larger full HD monitor would be nice. Lots of stuff on my wish list.

Why not remove parts of the shelves above the monitor so you can use that space for the monitor? Or is that too difficult to do?

Glue & Dowell rods. The other issue is the verticle upright. to add shelves. I had a shelf in there when i had the Commodore 128 set up with a 13" CRT on it.

Well, the lappy arrived this afternoon and it is a winner. Cleaned out Norton at the git go and installed MSE as well as updated it ( wasn't much as it was a fairly recent install of the OS ).Still have some cleaning to do. I was looking ot over and I do believe I can play Fallout 3 on that thing with no problems ( going to try it and see what happens ). Right now, having a bit of a problem getting MSN Premium. Verizon doesn't offer it anymore, but there is a site to get it if you had it before they dropped it. Also made up up the recovery disks as well as the back up Drivers & Apps Disk. The touch pad feels real good as that thing is slick & smooth. has a good solid feel to it and over all, was a bargain at $399.99. it is sitting over here and the Hdd is busy, so maybe it is finally downloading and installing the MSn software. Maybe had to do with the fact I had three computers online ( 1 hardwired and 2 wireless ). Okay, got the MSN, stil need to run the Norton removal tool. After that is just removing the junk and getting a few apps.

Use something like PC Decrapifier. I ended up reinstalling windows on my lenovo netbook via a regular disc even though it had little bloat (it offers to install Norton, but it isn't actually installed OOTB), because for some reason things like the MenuShowDelay value in the registry kept getting reset (this has never happened before, on all the versions of windows I've done that on). Why do you use MSN Premium software over IE or Firefox anyway?

I was making up the recovery dsks and found out one thing. I went and got the other laptop as the optical drive has LabelFlash ( I only had one blank LightScribe DVD & Plenty of LabelFlash DVD's ) and I didn't feel like hooking up the Gateway desktop. Anyway, I nearly ran out of battery as it apparently uses a lot of battery power when burning labels on disks. :P :D Had to go get the adapter to finish ( that thing got kinda warm too ). I was surprised in that it didn't seem to have a whole lot of Crapware on it as I have seen in the past. Had enough, though. Will work on that today maybe as I need to get the Christmas tree down from the attic and put up. My Brother should get his today, and I'll probably spend a lot of time on the phone as well, this evening. :P There is an Intel widget you can get that will send the display wireless to the TV. Has an HDMI output as well. can't say as I have ever really been that big on laptops, but really do like this one. If push came to shove,, I do have a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit ( also 32 bit as I got both in the Retail version ). Also have to go into MSCONFIG and tighten up the Start menu as well, although it starts pretty darned well. Hopefully, with the Ram upgrade I'm going to do on the other lappy with Vista, That one will do a bit better. It has a 32 bit OS and I'm going to put in a a full 4gb of ram when it gets here. Also moving up from the 667 Mhz to 800 Mhz ( GSkill ). Already got call from my brother. Seems that someone he works with wants to get on now and he asked me if they still had them. I got a notice last night from TigerDirect that they got a small truckload in ( about a sixth of the original number ) so will will sell those at $399.99 after the $50 rebate .

You mean Intel WiDi? (wireless display) I haven't really had a reason to use it (HDMI is good enough I think), but I can see it being handy - you can keep the laptop on your lap while watching to control it if needed. I used a wireless mouse the last time I did that, and used it to mute the audio during the hulu commercials and such.

Yep, WiDi. I have been messing around with it and am on it now. Installed Fallout 3, but that didn't go so well. It did fine up to the point when I clicked to start new game, then it crashed, The first time I up the settings to High after it set then to medium. The next time I went with the medium settings and even turned off AA and VSync. I noticed the Disk is in pretty bad shape, so may have had a bad install as well. I did get a message to the effect that it may have not installed properly and if I wanted to reinstall it. Pretty good little laptop, all things considered.
