Hello, Currently I am running the free edition of AVG both the Virus Scanner Control Center and the anti-Spyware part. I also am running Norton 360 along side of it.In the past I have always been a fan of the Norton stuff, because .....well I guess because I never had any problems while using it. It was however a resource hog. In PC World a lot of the time I have noticed that they praise the AVG stuff and say things like "with protection like this, why pay for subscriptions".......One of the things Norton used to do was scan and assure me everything I downloaded was okay every time, rather quickly too. Does AVG do that ? Because if it does I can't tell. What do you guys think ? I guess that I am asking does AVG offer just as good of protection as Norton. And do either do script blocking ?Thanks for any help.-vodmare.

This is just from my experience, Norton is overpriced and highly targeted as far as anti-virus systems go. When I use to use it and have frequent problems with malware of all sorts it would often get to be irreparable and un-updateable more annoyingly unremovable lol.Either way, You can manually scan everything with AVG free once you download a file. I', not sure about the professional version.

{size:18px}[/size]:D Hi Vodmare : I find it hard to believe you are running BOTH Norton 360 ( would never again have a Symantec/Norton product on MY computer ) and AVG AntiVirus on your computer !? This usually results in a "conflict", decreasing the effectiveness of BOTH products . A couple of years ago when I was researching WHICH Free Antivirus to use, I chose Avast ( www.avast.com ) over AVG, primarily because of its 7 "Providers/Shields" and Excellent Support Forums . Have AVG AntiSPYWARE because it was a top antispyware program before Grisoft bought it from the Ewido company . If you are looking for a Good & FREE firewall, would recommend you chose between Sunbelt Kerio, Sygate, or Zone Alarm that can be found at www.filehippo.com/software/firewalls/ . To COMPLETELY REMOVE Norton, you should use the info at http://fileforum.bet...il/1125124391/1 . For reliable info on Good & Free programs, see : http://rcip.com/mitc...dieUpdated.html .

Hey thanks guys, I appreciate the help. You know I have had one problem in the past with Norton where I had to do a manual remove concerning the registry......isn't that what I bought the damn software for ? And the updater never seemed to want to go away.I am running both programs (although I didn't know of the conflict thing) just to see side by side which one is doing me justice. However, the Norton one expires in 3 days I think and I believe I am going to go with the stuff that you mentioned.Cheers!-vodmare.

Hey Guys, thought that I would share on this (again)I once installed Norton 360 to give her a go and I found that my machine began to suffer a bit on the net and a little in general. But after I un installed it and used some of the AVG / Zone Alarm free configs that things improved quite a bit.So fast forward to me setting up my own website and one of the freebies that came along was plain vanilla norton internet securites.....hey it's free.....so like an old girlfriend that went crazy and tried to kill me (more than one installation of girlfriend becomes unfriendly for some reason) I gave her another go. I have found that more and more my web surfing and speed tests are lack luster. So I have come crawling back on my knees to AVG and ZoneAlarm and so far things are just a bit speedier. Also, I simply hated it when I would tell norton that I did not want something to run or access and it would over and over and over ask me again and again and AGAIN, until I said yes for it to go away. That's no way to do business.....I know this news is nothing new but I thought that I should share it none the less. Thanks! :)-vodmare.
