I did an online SMART analysis of my WD Black HD with Speedfan, and noticed it says 'watch' on a few attributes. Is this okay? CrystalDiskInfo says it's all fine, though I notice it was making a slightly odd noise when I booted it up and there was a lot of disk access. Oddly, the Samsung, which is probably 5 years old (the WD is 2), has much better health according to it. btw the WD has a power on count of 1184, and 2094 hours. The samsung has a power on count of 311 and 3501 hours. However, I have another identical Samsung disk (both came from a lacie nas that used them in raid 0, and the PCB of the nas failed), and I've left that one in the closet while the other has been in my computer for at least a year or so, and it also has a power on count of 311, so I'm sure that's wrong.

I would get the DLG tools from WD, and let it run an extended test. See what it tells you. You have a 5 year warranty. USE IT if needed.

Btw this drive has had that status for a while now. I'm about to run a test then; just downloaded the utility.

Man, you were out of spec by 1 on both values.
Hopefully your second test will be satisfactory.
Good thing you have a 5 yr warrenty if you need it.
I'm sure you backup often.

I did a quick test earlier (took 2 minutes) and it passed. I then started a long or whatever test and so far it still hasn't finished (takes 2 hours, about 10 minutes remaining when I just checked). I'm typing this from my laptop because the WD program says to close all programs, to help make sure there's no disk activity, "to avoid data loss". Doesn't seem very likely, but ok.
I wonder if speedfan is just a bit more sensitive than other programs about this though. I have a Maxtor 250GB drive that had 'watch' on a few values, but I never encountered any problems with it (it was in my old Pentium 4 machine, and I put it in the closet when I built my i5 machine). It still works just fine.
Edit:

OK, I guess speedfan is a little off here - the WD DLG tool thinks everything is fine.
