I've seen stuff on that Winter Carnival. Pretty neat. One way to enjoy the Winter. Here, even on the coast it is hot muggy, but you do get a breeze. Sea water temps in mid summer are between the upper 70's and lower 80's. You guys have that cold Humbolt current on the west Coast that flows down from the Arctic and we have the Gulf Stream that flows from the South and is warm. It does tend to provide a lot of moisture for Coastal storms and in the winter will a super cold air mass, a lot of snow as the storms wrap that warmer moist air around into the cold air. Needles can get hot for sure as does Barstow, but some of the hottest stuff is in Death Valley that is below sea level. In fact the higest temp ever recorded in North America was at some ranch in Death Valley @ 134 F , the lowest was in the Yukon @ -81.4 F ( International Falls didn't make the cut, not that it doesn't get a bit chilly there as well ). Worst thing about Vegas was going out and getting the car after lunch and grabbing the door handle ( let go in hurry too ).

Ahh starting to feel a bit more like Canada. Snowed two days in a row, we've finally had to take the shovel out. Not much though, but it was pretty cold.

The van side doors were frozen; we couldn't open them, so we had to climb in from the trunk. That always seems to happen because the van is really old.

I can stand the cold more than I can stand the heat. We went to Las Vegas last summer and I was dying. My parents were getting so annoyed because I wouldn't go outside for more than 5 minutes. After that I would have to run into somewhere with air conditioning and sit there for a while. it was just so hot, and I've heard that its like that almost once a week. I couldn't imagine living there.

Not to mention how much water I drank and how many times I went to the washroom. Posted Image

How hot was it in Las Vegas? 45C? I also prefer cold to hot - at least when it's cold you can layer, with hot unless you're inside with a fan and ac you can't do anything about it.

Probably around that range, and I really am not sure about the humidity.

A few days ago we had a really foggy day; you couldn't even read the highway exit signs until you were a car's length away from them, that's how bad it was. In summer here it gets pretty warm, but after being to Vegas, I can't complain. We probably have 1-2 days all summer at 40C humidity included, and thats it. Usually its 25-30C range.

Hopefully I'm not being a thread necromancer, but I wish the weather would be a little more consistent in NJ right around now.

Hey Grr8008, Yeah, it sure hasn't been too consistant in this part of the world for sure. I have had a bedroom window somewhat open all winter so far. It di get down into the tenns a couple of times at night and I had second thoughts about leaving that thing partially open the next morning. :D No snow so far this year ( did have some sleet ).

We finally got some snow Sunday ( 11 Feb. ) It came in on a cold front that moved through. It was something to see for sure and the temps were up in the 40's when it started, but not for long. We ended up with maybe a 1/2" on the ground.

That is what it is doing at the moment. So far just a light snow, but the temp is at around 38, but falling. May get a bit messy later on though.

Got about 3" so far and it is still coming down at a pretty good rate. Tomorrow is Presidents Day and the schools were closed anyway, so the kids got rooked out of a snow day. :D

Ended up with about 5" of snow. The temps are supposed to hit 70 or above by Thursday. I went out Monday morning and noticed that a Daffodil had come up and bloomed, before the snow hit. We also have had a lot of Robins around, which is a good sign.

The trees have begun to bud and the blossoms are on the cherry trees. TOO SOON. One good cold snap and our fruit will be gone for the year. So glad that someone was able to get to bottom of things on the honey bee parasite. Funny how it all comes back to mother nature. I've begun to rethink my retirement location and may just stay here in California. Too cold in Colorado, even if you're not in the mountains.

The weather is pretty bipolar in Southern California. It's hot as hell on some days and then it's raining the next day.

It's been fairly cold some days (by California standards that is), looking like it was about to rain (today, for instance), and other days it's sunny and warm like spring. I live in Northern California btw (suburbs of San Francisco).

So yesterday I heard a pelting noise on our roof, sounded like something was crackling. I was home by myself, and I swear, I thought it was on fire, though I seriously couldn't imagine what it was. The stoves were off, nothing being cooked. As I headed downstairs, the noise seemed to get quieter. That's when I remembered that we had a sunroof, or whatever you call it, a little window in our ceiling, raised very high. I walked over and looked up, and it was hailing! Ad those pellets were coming down fast!

It stopped after around ten minutes, and what do you know, today, I'm wearing a t-shirt and it's 15C. Funny world. Posted Image

I was on a business trip in Paris several days ago. I can only say that the weather there is great…very sunny and warm, the trees are blossoming and it smells nice. I love winter too but I am glad it is over.

Well, you can forget the snow, It is close to 90 here at the moment and the trees have been in full foliage for some time ( earlier than usual ). Looks like it will be more of the same for the rest of the week.
