How To Turn Off Windows Media Player Automatic Volume Level?

When my wife plays a CD in WMP, the beginning of EVERY track B-L-A-S-T-S very distorted, then it goes very low volume, then after a few seconds it finally returns to a normal undistorted volume level. That sounds like some kind of Automatic Volume/Level control. I can't find any option to turn OFF this automatic volume control.

My WMP is ver. 12.0.7260.0
I'm using Win7 Ultimate 32bit, & there isn't anything in the my Control Panel called, "Manage Audio Devices" or anything similiar. I did look in Control Panel/Sounds, but nothing useful there either.
I was going to try to Revo WMP, but it isn't shown in the Revo list of uninstallable programs.

Edit: Added WMP ver.

Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar, Playback Devices. Click speakers, properties, enhancements.
Need a Windows ISO image?

Thanks LiveB, I should have given the OP the pathway.

In the Ehnancements tab I have the following check boxes:
(1) Disable all enhancements
(2) Enable Loudness Equalization
(3) Enable Sound Equalizer
(4) Enable Environment Modeling
(5) Enable Room Correction
ALL boxes were/are UNchecked.
I'll try checking "Disable all enhancements". Maybe there are enhancements that are not listed.
As a side note, when I Rt. clicked on the speaker Icon, I select Playback Devices. I have 2 speaker options. One as you described & the other is "SRS Audio Essentials". I can't find THAT program Anywhere on this computer.
I did find VIA HD Audio Deck though. That's part of the mobo's onboard audio. When I checked that out, there wasn't anything like an automatic volume/level control.

Is the Via HD Audio Deck an installed program? If so I would recommend uninstalling it and rebooting, and letting Windows 7 install its native drivers. I use the native drivers with all my builds and they work fine.

Since I can't UNinstall WMP, I'll try deleting the icons for it. It won't be gone, but will be inaccessible to all but True Computer Geeks.

Are you using any Sound Card on the machine?
You can try playing the same song to a differnet Headphone or the Speakers.
I suspect it could be a problem with the sound card drivers.
You can update the drivers for the sound devices and try after that.
1. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
2. Click System and Maintenance, click System, and then click Device Manager.
Note If Control Panel is in Classic View, double-click System, and then click Device Manager.
3. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
4. In Device Manager, expland "Sound Video and Game controllers", right-click the "Sound Video and Game controllers" and go to properties.
5. Browse to the Update tab and then click on update driver.
You may also check on the Sound card manufacturers web site and verify if they have any updated drivers for Windows 7 and try to install it.
Hope it helps.
