Hello everyone.

It is said that Windows 8 will be released on 2012, in what month Microsoft will released their newest OS?
I dont know much of windows 8, if windows 8 is released, netbooks or notebooks will also be released with OS of windows 8? or windows 8 is for tablets only?
If netbooks or notebooks will be released with windows 8 as its OS, how much do you think the ranges of price?

I am planning to buy one as windows 8 released.
thank you.

Hi Zyrrah, this is just a personal thing, but the OS is built to function on both tablets ( Portables ) as well as desktops. To that end, there has been a lot of focus placed on the tablet aspect and personally, I don't plan to use it. I have a feeling that it won't been an improvement over Windows 7 for Desktops and Notebooks.

There are some rumors of Windows 8 being released in the fall of 2012 but I don't think the month has been pinned down yet. So far it looks like there will be both x86 versions (for laptops, desktops, etc.) and possibly an ARM version for tablets and the like. No word yet on the pricing but we all know that Microsoft doesn't give their software away.

I agree with coastie, from what I've seen so far there aren't any features that make me want to abandon Windows 7, an OS that I really like, on my desktop. I am somewhat interested in seeing an ARM-based ASUS Transformer with Windows 8, it might turn out to be a nice step up from my Acer netbook, so I'm trying to keep an open mind.

I agree. Actually, even if I had a tablet, I would prefer the windows 7 interface (though with some of the icons enlarged, and I could use the windows dpi scaling to do that). Windows 7 is definitely good as it is. However, I like the faster startup times and such with win8 (though my next drive will likely be an SSD if the hard drive manufacturers don't stop this price gouging, so it might not matter too much).

Microsoft is not being very open on when they release Win8, but when they do I hope they do it right! Aka a separate Tablet and PC edition (or an easy way to switch between the two)

As far as being an improvement over windows 7... its going to be mostly under the hood, I can see a difference in system response right off the bat. I already have to re-install Windows 7 on my laptop (it's not running efficiently) And it's only been like 8 months since I did it too!
Windows 8 even after my tests is still snappy and very responsive! The prices will probably be about the same, at worst the fluctuation in price will be a net average of $75.

I may get Win8 with my student account, but until then, I'll live with my Mac. I have to keep abreast of Microsoft though, the IT world is Microsoft-oriented for sure!

I find it odd how I manage to mess up my OS every several months, yet the OS on my mom's PC has never been reinstalled, it's the 2 year old factory install.

I've played with the Developer's Preview a bit, and found it to be a clumsy hybrid of two operating systems. I suspect it will be like Vista--a failed version of Windows which will be followed by a better one.

Windows 8 hasn't been release to Beta version yet so I would look for it for Holidays 2012 or 2013.

Interesting Lincoln.
Most people have said it will be great and not following the bad good pattern of Microsoft.
Still I believe you.

Windows 8 Consumer Preview (Beta) has been released now. You can get an iso of it and check it out in VirtualBox.

Windows 8 is a useless OS that Microsoft released that has many flaws and bugs. DO NOT USE IT. Use Windows XP or Windows 7.

Cool! I'm downloading it right now! Last time, I had nice download speeds at first (saturating my connection), 2MB/sec, but toward the end it really dropped, toward 150-300KB/sec, as more people started downloading it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the speed stays fast this time (which is hard to do while typing this )

Cool, it did. HOWEVER - there's no option to officially disable the metro UI or anything. I REALLY don't like metro here. This makes perfect sense on a tablet, touch optimized interface normally, regular desktop when you need it, but makes NO sense on a regular machine without a touchscreen. I think they are heading straight into a massive train wreck with this. I'll be sticking with Windows 7 now...

I still do not like this. The interface feels unnatural unless you have a tablet or touchscreen (which most of us don't), and now there are some things (like email) that are only in the metro UI (unless you get a third party one I guess). Several things require a 'microsoft account' (aka Windows Live ID), even if the service doesn't have any reason for it (ex. email - maybe I don't want to use a hotmail account). Plus, you need to change the entire user account to one linked with a microsoft account if you want to use the skydrive app. Stupid... I don't want a limited tablet interface for a desktop machine! And you can't shut down directly - either push alt+f4 from the classic desktop (not obvious), push start+R and type 'shutdown -s -t 0' (really not obvious), or go to the metro ui (not obvious how to get back from the regular desktop, easiest way is to hit the start key on the keyboard), click your username and log out, and then shutdown. The login screen is ugly, only a solid color. (why not use the lock screen image?) I am definitely, DEFINITELY sticking with Windows 7. And the worst part? There's no way in the GUI to disable metro. (I'm not sure if the RPEnabled registry hack still works, I haven't tried it yet.) I'm pretty sure this will fail and won't catch on with businesses. I'd prefer Vista (even withOUT service packs) to this mess. Vista 2.0 I guess. (version number is 6.2... fits well)

You can turn it off with regsitery edit:
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
Than changethe RPEnabled key to a 0 instead of the default 1.

Edit:
YOu already know about it after I read yur second post.

Hey SikFly,
Have you been using it on a tablet? I've been playing with it for a couple of days and can see where Win8 might shine with a touch screen, not so much with mouse and keyboard. And in "desktop" mode I'm not yet seeing any compelling reason to upgrade --- that says a lot about how good Win7 is. Also, IE10 sure responds slowly but it's beta so I'm not surprised.
I haven't been able to find a feature like Win7's Libraries or Jump menus, which I really like, but I don't know if it's missing in the new OS or user error  .
I'm back in Win7 where I can get my stuff done --- I'm taking a "wait and see" approach to Win8.

Edit: Just for clarification, I installed the beta on a spare hard drive, not VM.

The libraries are still there on the desktop, and I think jump menus are there too. I have to say, I feel that with Windows 7 they hit a gold mine, but with Windows 8 they hit a rotten garbage can. (at least in terms of regular desktop usage) It does boot fast though. I won't make any judgements about desktop performance since I've only been using a VM so far, and virtualbox's video driver doesn't work in Win8. The interface is definitely unintuitive from what I've seen without a touchscreen or tablet.
