This post is in regard to a very recent article here on PCWorld and my resultant experience. Thinking this will be a heads-up for others. Recently I bought an Android microSD card from N2A Cards in Arizona, that allows the Android OS to operate on Barnes and Nobles Nook Color eBook reader. The card failed in under 3 days of use! After-the-fact I have discovered on that company's own forum that they are aware of the problem - but continue to ship products. Here is a copy of my mail to their customer support, which explains the situation in detail;
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
N2A Customer Support,
My 8gb N2A card arrived in the mail on 12/27/11 and was installed that evening. Worked good and I explored Android for about one hour. Shut down the reader & went to bed.
The evening of 12/28/11 I powered-up my Nook Color and booted into Android, Ok, so again explored Android, adjusted settings, played a game for about half an hour. Browsed on Google, bought and downloaded a book. Went to bed.
The evening of 12/29/11 I powered up my Nook and it went through the menu selection and up to the opening page that shows the N2A screen and the revolving circle (loading Android) >>> reader now refuses to proceed from there!
I have attempted boot into Android now five different times, once leaving the Nook running with the circle screen for half an hour, and once removing/installing your SD card between attempts >>> still it does not work!
The card is broke - within 3 days of use - I want a refund.
I request a "Return Material Authorization" or RMA Number and shipping address from you so that I can obtain a complete refund. My order number is xxxx placed on 12/22/2011 in the amount of approximately $34.95 for your card and $5.00 USPS shipping.
In addition; here is confirmation of my Google book order >>> which I never had an option/time to read and do not have any other Android reader to substitute.
Order date: Dec 28, 2011
Google order number: xxxxxxxxx
Digital delivery 1, Locked On - Google eBook -- $12.99
>>> So the full amount of the refund will be approximately $53.00
Your card is a good idea but the execution thereof is seriously bad!
Bill
Hope but doubt I will receive back much or all of the money I have spent, so am posting this event for anyone's benefit/consideration before they also spend money.
Further to my original post regarding the N2A cards. I have now received a reply from that company's customer support staff. This includes an explanation, apology and offer of full refund.
So this event has progressed better than ever I expected, though I remain cautious about using this product.
