Now sure how this Application Developers Alliance compares to I have been part of ACT (The Association for Competitive Technologies) but I have been part of the latter for 8 or so years and this organization does a fantastic job of fighting for our rights across many concerns including privacy, IP, potential legislation that can harm software companies or those that depend on that software, and the list goes on too long to discuss here but you should check into that as well since it has been around for a very long time! http://actonline.org

Paul,

You miss a very important angle to this article, and an opportunity where app developers could already do more to help get their voices heard. The Association for Competitive Technology (http://www.actonline.org) has been an active advocate for software businesses for at least a decade. They've given testimony in congress about app specific issues (http://www.judiciary...20Testimony.pdf). I think the app developer community would be much better served by seeing more involvement in a more mature organization that is already engaged with congress and many state legislatures, and even the EU bodies in Brussels. It would do a great deal more to bolster the position of apps developers in government bodies.

It looks like this group certainly has great intentions, but they are not the first to venture here. The Association for Competitive Technology has been doing this for more than a decade. They already have the resources and the relationships with the decision-makers to have a great and global impact.
