Was hit with a virus yesterday morning. The blue flag, that shows updates, is white in color with a lil black clock under it. I can't stop it or delete it. My IE or Firefox won't load. The only things that will load on my laptop are IE 64-bit, CCleaner and SuperAntiSpyware....Nothing else. I've been to safe mode and I still can't open anything else there. I can't even run Malwarebytes. I went to the Windows Security Center and the lil black flag is there, as well. Won't let me do anything. Took my laptop to my brothers house yesterday and after 9 hours, he said this is the worse he's ever seen. He couldn't figure it out. I have no clue what to do, besides pulling out the back-up disc. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Use a Linux boot CD to scan for virus/malware. http://www.f-secure....ools/rescue-cd/
Windows 8 is a useless OS that Microsoft released that has many flaws and bugs. DO NOT USE IT. Use Windows XP or Windows 7.

That doesn't work either. Will probably have to spoof it by renaming malwarebytes to rambo or something.

I can get SuperAntiSpyware to run, but no Malwarebytes. Can't even get Malwarebytes up in safe mode.

Here is an update. It appears that she is finally back in business and the bug is gone. Restructured her security and had her do some other minor housekeeping type things and she should be fine. She found one scanner that would run and it found a Trojan downloader and quarantined that. If I remember, after that she was able to get SUPERantispyware to work, which found some stuff. I had her run a scan for root kits using another scanner by Kaspersky. Don't know if that found anything or not. Finally she was able to run Malwarebytes and did and found some more stuff to quarantine. All the strange stuff she was seeing in the task bar finally disappeared and IE and Firefox was working again as well. She had MSE and AVG in there and I told her to get rid of AVG, which she did. I also wiped out my lunch that was on the stove in the process. :o :D

Didn't know if you would come back and update the thing after you decided to go the PM route with it. We generally prefer to keep it on the open forums for the purpose of getting more members involved. I know it can get confusing with a lot of folks chiming in with suggestions, but for the most part it works well and I didn't mind. Anyway, it's all good, and it seems that you are back in business again. :D Now, about that lunch.............

About the only thing that bugs me around here are Spammers & Trolls. I have little to no patience for either these days. :P :D

lol... you tend to see a lot of trolls on engadget.com, but not too many here. Under SOPA, a single spam post is theoretically all that's needed to shut down this site, if it links to a site selling fake goods and such. (and the piracy continues...)
