I went to Walmart today and found a WD USB 3.0 and 2.0 2TB external hard drive for $89.00 marked down from $150.99. I asked why it was so cheep and they said no returns and it was open but never used and they could not sell it for full price anymore. So I took it home I am running tests on it all passed so farPosted Image I also still get two full years of warranty from WD. Did I make out or what?

Dang... considering the floods that's a great price! I wouldn't go for a refurb hard drive, but since in this case it sounds like someone bought it, opened it, and then decided they didn't want it (without actually using it), the drive is still in brand new condition, only the box isn't. :D That looks like a great deal!

If you look to the right of the Clearance label, you wil see it says "Planet Friendly " so I suspect it is a Green.

My WD Elements has a WD Caviar Green drive inside it, and I suspect the same here. Perhaps that's why they call it 'green' (supposedly reduced energy consumption). Mainly, the green drives are slower, but that's not an issue as USB is bottlenecking things a ton anyway (unless it's 3.0), and you're probably only storing files on the external drive, not booting from it.

I just paid 130 bucks for seagate 1TB internal, cuz of the floods, it used to be 80 bucks.

I would never buy that "Green" crap, if someone is so worried about saving such a tiny amount of power just set the drive to turn off after 15 minutes.

For an external hard drive or a storage drive (if you're booting from an SSD perhaps), a green drive is a better choice because it's cheaper and you won't notice the extra performance much anyway.
