The key is to provide internet connectivity that can handle multiple HD streams. I don't think the 56Kbps dial up will do the job or the 1.5Mbps max I can get from Centurylink DSL. Once we get the bandwidth, I'm all in on ala cart. I'd be really happy to pick channels rather than packages!

Google/Apple may well be the way that TV is going. I will not like that day. With ISPs clamoring for data caps, even with a fast data pipe, the prospect of being able to watch what you want on demand is bleak at best.

I couldn't disagree more with Mike. Microsoft and the Xbox360 will dominate TV. Google and Apple's units don't offer games. You get almost everything from Google and Apple along with games.

Maybe I don't know, but I already have two XBox 360's in the house and have no plans whatsoever to buy anything google or apple puts out. I already barely use the apps on my samsung blue ray player.

I really enjoyed the article but think there is so much more to consider...

Admittedly I am no technical or marketing guiness but I just entered the tablet world and giving an end user perspective...

I am already experiencing some problems. I tried to stream from Amazon prime and my Samsung tab2 does not support flash. Also it doesn't support hdmi output from what I am discovering. I don't want to always watch on my tablet. This means I need a compatible Bluetooth device or a smart tv....I guess....oh boy here we go.... I am already feeling pushed to buy a smart tv. I won't. I will not !! Better yet just like most people right now...I can't!

So the incompatible hdmi dock goes back and the cables. Disappointed... I am hoping I can get it to work via my play station until comcast gets a settop for my needs but I am physically and mentally and finacially exhausted from this nonsense. Fortunately that was not the biggest selling point for me to get my tablet. I have also heard that Intel and Comcast are working on it!

So I will not be renewing my prime membership as it is useless. The only success I have had streaming anything is via Comcast and that is only to my tablet. I have not tried Google play as of yet....afraid of the flash problems there!

Honestly when I crunched the numbers for all the alacarte subscriptions it comes out to be more money than just having cable and using their streaming but that is not all that I want to do....

Advertising in this projected world will still exist and probably be annoying and obtrusive. In fact, it already is. I'm finding it already is a non stop pounding of pop ups and banners strategically placed for my accidental touch. NO Thank you!!!

I see where they all want to go but don't see how it will all be cohesive and cost effective. It already costs nearly 100.00 a month just for unlimited smartphone usage add all the costs of the subscriptions and then ISP charges....meh...then I still need cable internet don't I and to fork over a few grand for new tv's....data caps don't apply in my situation as my tab is WiFi only......for the love of God!!!

Ì also think you''re forgetting the large baby boomer demographic. Many of which are just entering the into the hdtv market. They are not running out to buy new tv again tomorrow...technology already moves to fast for many of them and their budgets.

I may way off in some of my assements but it also seems like just a monopoly exchange of power...and greed. Innovative yes but many jobs would be lost as . It's already a monopoly war and consumers like me are already frustrated .

I am staying with Comcast. People forget how much they used to pay
For all the unbundled service....I used to average 100 a month in long distance alone on top of my monthly land line service. 52.00 for that...52 for cable internet , and 60 for my call and text cell package...with Comcast I get it all bundled for less money and I still stream what I want from them. Free hbo free starz..so no extra subscription to Netflix , blockbuster ...blah blah blah

Plus all the on demand programing.... if I really need something the don't have it blockbuster night or rebox. If I am feeling lazy ... and with gas costing what it is (oh maybe i go and buy an electric car for that!!)I might buy it from Google play if will even work..but the prices are a bit high and Comcast prices are commensurate for on demand content and I can watch and use that with out connecting with my tablet on my big tv!! I can , however, use Comcast app on my tab to control my tv's!

I have 3 hdtv s none of which are Google or 3d or smart. No plans to fork over 2 or 3 gs for new ones either....not til they break ... this is how most of the people I know live and feel this way as well....

For me the future seems to be set-top box with Bluetooth or some other Bluetooth option....I am concerned about quality there....
