I saw one where you just have a 10" tablet, I forget what brand, and then you can put it in a dock to get a keyboard and pointing stick - cool, but I kinda want to keep the keyboard with it because I'd use that a lot.

That sounds like the Asus Transformer I was talking about. I really like the looks of it.

Hey, I'm not exactly an opposite to you. For instance, I have an acer monitor like you (though I'm noticing some color shifting on this, which is annoying me quite a bit, and the viewing angles aren't great, though that's not as big of an issue, and the factory color settings are awful), and I have an antec case (just not the same model, because I didn't need the included psu and wasn't willing to spend too much).

It's all good.

The thing is that the Transformer runs Android, and I want Windows. Other than that, the design would work fairly well for my purposes.

I have to wonder how Windows 8 will turn out. I have no interest whatsoever with the metro UI, but I can see how some might (mainly on a tablet).

Are you sure you want the ASUS Transformer? What if it's a Decepticon? Do you want to serve Megatron as your master?

I would use my Asus Transformer to kill Megatron. Whether Megatron likes it or not.

LOL why did that post 3 times? I think I had connection issues yesterday and the lag caused it to post 3 times. Haha. Accidental troll, my bad.

Also, I also heard about that transformer thing, looks amazing!

Yeah, unless you one of those equal opportunity types who will simply shell out for all three.

I practically did.
I just picked up a Lumia 900 with WP7 this week and realized I had too many toys with overlapping features (netbook, Kindle Fire, and now this phone). I mean, how many devices do you need to stream Netflix movies on your lap? One of my co-workers was planning to purchase a Fire for her son (well, maybe mostly for herself  ) so I sold her mine yesterday. The next item to go will be the netbook: when ASUS comes out with a Transformer that runs WinRT (formerly WOA) I'll sell or gift the netbook and make the big move to a tablet with a docking station. (I'm not married to ASUS. If somebody comes out with a better option I'm all over it)
BTW, I love the new phone, Nokia did an amazing job and Mango is cool.

Yeah, I just picked up another toy, although it has been sitting around here for awhile. My Brother-in-Law had an HP Dv9260nr lappy that he brought over sometime back for me to look at. He had just paid someone some $90 to look at it and tell him he needed a new MOBO. Guess he wanted a second opinion or his way to get rid of it. Anyway, I looked at while they were here and determined the GPU was kaput and it needed a new MOBO ( I also think the fan is suspect as well and ordered a fan / heatsink for that thing as well ). Already have two lappys and two desktops.:P

Hey coastie,
Yeah, I've been following your thread on the laptop you inherited. I'm kinda hip deep in computers myself (three desktops and two laptops), another reason I sold the Fire. That was a great little tablet, I already miss it. :D

I had a third Desktop running XP, but gave that to my sister. It is coming up on 6 years old, but the best computer she has had to date. :D I had an Intel PD 945 ( 3.4 Ghz ) and an Nvidia 9800GT Card in it. I did change out the Corsair 650TX that was in it for an Antec Basiq 500w that had been in it. :D

My only Android experience was with the KFire, a heavily modded version, but I thought it was very well implemented. I've never used an Android phone so I can't really draw direct comparisons, but I will say that WP7 is excellent. I'm not a heavy app user so I'm more than happy with the selection (I was playing around with Nokia Drive and the GPS function and it's a hoot). I've read complaints about the tie-in with Zune but so far I see it as a positive feature, the phone makes a dandy media device (music, mp4 movies, Netflix, etc.). And the Nokia hardware is excellent, very well crafted. Plus, I'm sort of getting a feel for what Win8 is going to be like on a tablet, and I like it (Win7 stays on my desktops for now).

BTW, if you google WP7 and Verizon you'll see that they're planning to get into the act too.

I remember you mentioning that 945 in the past, before you moved on to bigger and better things. :)

Yeah. I had to update the BiOS because it came with a PD 805. I have a 945 and 925 here now. :D

Say, how do you think wp7 compares to android? (it's too bad there aren't any wp7 devices on verizon... I'm thinking about getting a phone)

Yeah, I read about that. I'm thinking about getting a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and I'm not sure how stock 4.0 ICS compares to other manufacturer customization (mainly 2.3 Gingerbread right now). Personally, I think android is a better platform for me (for instance, there are beta versions of chrome and firefox for it). I noticed that Pandora is missing from it though (I'm not sure what's up with that). I tried a wp7 device, and man, it felt fast compared to most android devices.

Apparently WP7 is well optimized to run on single core processors; mine is smooth as silk. Somebody did their homework. :D
