I've tried many different antivirus programs over the years, and am happy with my current choice of NOD32. So far, it has a minimal effect on my system, and seems to protect quite well, especially on questionable websites or downloads. The following is a list of my past experiences...NortonBloatware at its worst. Slowed my system to a crawl, often buggy updates, and acted like a virus itself. When will Symantec realize that I don't want to be reminded that I only have 3 more months of my subscription remaining every time I reboot my system? Removing this junk completely is only possible with an HDD reformat. Not surprisingly, their Norton removal tool doesn't remove everything.McAfeeMore bloatware which slowed my system to a crawl. Detection was better than Norton, and it too is difficult to completely remove.KasperskyVirus detection was good, but it slowed my system down more than any of the others I tried. My initial install was buggy. The program wouldn't allow me to connect to the Internet (I suppose that's one way of stopping viruses). I had to uninstall the program so that I could connect to their website's tech support. After searching through layers of pages and FAQs, I found that one of the shields caused the bug when activated. Not good.AVG (free)Program had minimal impact on my system, but I later found out from an online scan (Trend Micro), that it did miss a couple of viruses.AvastImmediately got several false positives. Scanning was extremely slow. Removal was a real pain in the butt.PandaMediocre virus detection. Again, slowed system down too much.

Using Kaspersky Anti-Virus engine the new Zone Alarm anti-virus and World Class Firewall,is a hands down steal,at $19.95. I back it up with Counter-Spy v2, Ad-Aware Plus & Primary Safe Connect,as a lethal 1-2-3 anti-spyware,anti-malware trio. All the spyware apps are super affordable at $19.95, $25.95,and $29.95 respectively, all with one year updates included. Never before has complete protection been so affordable. Cheers... Ron.

{size:18px}[/size]:D Avast Home Edition ( FREE ) is my Choice; no need to pay for AV coverage when I use a "layered" Approach that includes 4 antiSPYWARE/antiTROJAN programs and a software firewall . Also, detection "rates" are on equal footing with "Customer Support" and I have seen nothing better than the Avast Support Forums. As far as "testing" goes, I prefer the "independent" www.av-comparatives.org/ . For AVG AV Free Users, should consider the info in the thread at http://forum.avast.c...p?topic=27889.0 , which compares the relative merits of Avast Free & AVG AV Free .

I use NOD32 because it's does not slow my system down and does its job quietly.I got rid of Norton AV five years ago because it slowed my system down tremendously. Their "Live Update" components messed up Windows XP bad enough for me to have to reinstall Windows for two different computers. And if you ever want to play computer games, you can count on Norton to make it impossible to do. Norton did something to the game files or Windows files that games simply will not play (ergo, reinstall Windows without Norton AV). I also found the constant nagging by Norton AV annoying (I don't remember what the nagging was about but I do remember thinking that the last thing I wanted was a software nanny). After that experience, never again will I ever buy a Norton product.I've also used McAfee and Trend Micro. McAfee also slowed the system down tremendously, similar to Norton. Trend Micro seemed OK but it interfered with a few computer games.NOD32 is the only AV I've used that does it's job and not interfere with games or whatever else you're doing.

I use System Care Pro from Avanquest - because thier 5-PC license allows me to protect ALL my PC's with a single package; for the same price that the "big" guys charge for each anti-virus license. It's effective, easy-to-use, doesn't slow me down.

BitDefender 10. I really liked the new Anti Virus review PCWorld did. I thought it was a very good unbiased review, as I agreed with what was said about B.D., and some of the other AV products I've evaluated. :)

Been very happy w/ Avira AntiVir Classic (the free version) since I stopped paying for the G DATA AVK dual engine AV a couple of yrs ago. If I hadn't gone freebee I'd be using NOD 32 now but, as it is, I'll probably just try integrating ClamAV into Spyware Terminator soon for a little extra protection.(Pretty disappointed AntiVir didn't make the list. It rates very high @ www.av-comparatives.org - why does PC World pay it so little attention??)

I have been using NOD32 for several years as it has a minimal impact on system resources and has the fastest malware/virsus scan on the market. In addition, NOD32 causes just a minimal slowdown while browsing, something that cannot be said for other programs.Kaspersky is a fairly good program, but it slows down your overall computer use and the initial scan takes many hours. Kaspersky also slows down your browsing much more than NOD32.

I don't use anything...I just watch my computer to see if I can catch anything.. :--)Seriously, I have always used McAfee and Norton both. Between the 2 I seem to catch most problems. (fingers crossed!)

I currently use McAfee's On-Access Scan. Since I got it I haven't had a single virus on my computer that it didn't catch. And yes, I did test this. I have run several other anti-virus programs, and none of them have found a single virus that McAfee didn't.The main reason I use McAfee, though, is because I get it free through my college.

I use AVG, BitDefender8 and lots of caution when online. Staying (smart) and updated seems to work for me.................good luck with your choices!

AVG for now, but I've used a number of AVs along with firewalls, as I enjoy experimenting on them to see how well one works from the other. So far my favorite has been NOD32 for its protection against unknown viruses that don't have to use signatures to detect attacks. Norton Antivirus Corporate "government" edition worked well for me, although it did use excessive memory resources when doing scans. But it caught a lot of those nasty viruses that the free ones didn't catch. AVG is great for updates, I can only say, they update almost on a continuous basis every day. Non resource hungry program, I really don't have much to complain about that.

I paid $50 for Nortons and stopped after 6 months. It doesn't seem to have an optionto delete so i went to (Trend Micro} to delete it.Nortons didn't tell me it was in Restoreand had to be shut down and do another Scan. That fixed it.My only virus in 12 years.:Dhttp://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp:D

I am currently using PC Tools Spyware Doctor V5 W/AV Plug in. Had Norton and was not happy with it at all. It really played havoc with my PC. Tried bitdefender but customer service was terrible. They never did get the scheduling working. Have had no problems with PCT SD.
