Which Anti-Virus Program Do You Use?

I use: NONE AT ALL!
Actually, under Linux I don't use any 'antivirus'. Under VMware sessions running Windows, I use 'AVG Free' and/or 'Spybot S&D'. Neither does scheduled or real-time protection. I just scan when I feel like it. Gmail has some anti-malware on the back-end, too. I even turned off 'Windows Defender' on the Vista VM because it's too annoying.
I don't run the standard virus/spyware/worm magnet software, and don't go visiting 'warez' sites.
I run with a 'user' account (without administrator/root/god privileges). I visit trusted web sites to get packaged software or build it and install it myself. I don't open email attachments I was not expecting, and use non-standard software to view the attachments I do open.
The single greatest virus vulnerability is a standard 'user' account with Administrator privileges. If it can run at all, it has the privileges necessary to plug its self in and propagate.
Antivirus software doesn't actually protect you from much. Any new or modified worm/virus/etc. will be tested against all of the newest antivirus software that's supposed to find it. Then it's a race to see whether it's discovered before it hits your own PC. In general, by the time antivirus software finds it, it will have already done its damage.

hi evildave!
AV apps will do nothing if users go on clicking on the wrong things by themselves. I wudnt be using any AV applications even under windows if there wer no USB drives. Yes , the whole problem comes from those small things. Working as a admin account with elevated privileges is certainly not a good thing especially to get on the net with, still ppl find it very useful to turn off the UAC in vista, not just disable it for admins but turn it off for normal users.Ppl say its the worst thing under vista, i say its the 2nd best thing that vista has, if users cud actually understand what it is .
As for linux, i have just begun using ubuntu (my sig will tell the rest of story, lol), so dont have much idea abt that at this point of time , but i m sure it wont be for long:-). Is it true that linux is free frm malware, i mean is it free or the risk is very less (or negligible).

it may stall ur pc , it did blunders on my dad's laptop. But they have updated their versions since then . lets see how this goes . kav has a tendency to delete the infected files - simply delete the files, even if they are important executibles. just an advice, double check before you remove any infections . :-)

AVG for AV; Webroot Spysweeper ( this thing has ten shields for things such as Anti keylogger, anti hijacker, and etc ). Had adaware as a back up, but dumped it and haven't replaced it with anything else yet. Will probably add an additional passive layer, as those two are running actively. coastie65

ok i take back my post about kaspersky. IT lagssss firefox+aim and other stuff..... it may be good at detection but it lags. Im simply switching back to avast, for lag free antivirus. The reviews on pcworld i say are complete bs. Norton at 2.. come on norton cant detect crap, plus its a big system hog... So far ive tested a couple antivirus in these couple of years. Heres my ratings
Norton- 1/10 worst one ever
Bit Defender 1/10 it caused a major error when i was installin took over 1hr just to uninstall caused a major diaster basically
Kaspersky- 8/10 nice at detecting easy interface, but i dont like lags so no
AVG- 10/10 lag free and good
Avast- 10/10 lag free good real time protection shields like 6 of them
Norton- 1/10 worst one ever

like what i said about kaspersky. where's nod32 and mcafee in ur list ??
well here's my ratings of the popular ones.
norton - 6/10 probably the best detection but whats the point when ur system will crawl, slow install and uninstall, leaves loads of stuff in registry
kaspersky - 5/10 slows down, plus removal of infections is bad, always deletes, scans quickly
bit defender - 8/10 no slowdown, good detection , but very less customizations
mcafee - 7/10 slows down a bit , but excellent cleaning abilities, but scans slowly
nod32 - 1/10 have read a lot of good reviews abt it but i didnt liked it, cudnt clean anything
avg - 6/10 absolutely no lag, but detection rate and auto-protect are major concerns
avast - 7/10 no lag , real time protection good, but a few weird problems with it
pctools antivirus - 0/10 their evaluation version only detects and no removal even in the trial period.lol
