I share Armando's pain when it comes to trying to navigate the hotels in Vegas. My strategy? Just. Keep. Walking.

In an era of cruddy PCWorld slideshows, this one really sets a new standard! Too many ridiculous slides to even bother mentioning; it probably should have been about 15-20 slides tops. Complaining about 50-cent on one slide and about celebrities in general on another, a not-so-clever trick to increase clicks maybe? I'm really getting disappointed with PCWorld lately, looks like I'll be spending less time here and more time at sites like Geek.com and liliputing.com where they seem to understand that my time does have value to me.

"Are Convertible Ultrabooks a Good Idea? I’m not sure that most users want to turn a slim and light laptop into a thick and heavy tablet."

Umm sorry but YES WE DO!
This article sounds more like somebody with a hangover, in a bad mood, jet lag, luvs only Apple products and just whining his own personal opinion. I havent seen anything yet that would be considered the "WORST of CES 2012"
One man's junk is another man's treasure. You dont speak for other people.

And complaing about complainers? lmao! omg! You were in a grouchy mood when you wrote this! Go take a nap and get some sleep.

Frankly, I'm fed up with the Android bashing. I own an Android tablet and I am VERY happy with it. I'm not an Apple detractor, I've owned 3 different Ipods in the past years. I also use an Ipad at work, and its not all of that! In fact, its what made me decided to buy the tablet I own now. I needed something that actually had ports. LOL!

You're bashing Android tablets, then why do you have, what appears to be, an awesome Windows 8 convertible in the photo?

Help me out guys, was the Jetpack device you tested on the Verizon network? And that was an unreleased device, yes?

If so, can one really complain about a device that hasn't been properly tested for the retail market?

As for 3d. I have active 3d in my homes (via DLP TV) and I LOVE IT. My wife loves it, and even her family loves it when they visit (my parents cannot see in 3d due to vision problems and don't really count :D ). Sorry that so many of you torture yourself with crappy LCD sets, but not all 3d is that bad. I will gladly keep mine, thank you very much.

How is LTE ruining anything? Because some crap ass manufacturer decides it isn't worth their time to release a non-LTE product doesn't make LTE the bad guy here. The manufacturers not thinking things through should be the point of contention here.

Then there is the real bothersome thing I have to ask about...
What is it you guys WANT from manufacturers exactly? Do you want the quality machines that Lenovo, Apple, and so very few others are known for, or do you want more plastic (RE: CHEAP) junk on the market? You can't have both. It doesn't work that way. QUALITY costs money, it always has.

I don't know what all was done exactly to prepare for CES, but I am sure the major players did make an attempt at beefing up their network. Just remember that there is a LOT involved in setting up a temporary site for a major even like CES. Backhaul is very hard to come by for a short event like that. I am sure there is a great deal of native capacity out there, but even then CES is no small deal, and I am sure everyones network was feeling it.

One last note - just because you had an entire slideshow of complaints:

Can you PLEASE nix the slideshows already?!

What I am sick of, are these slideshows at PCWorld. I'm also tired of the lack of attention to proofreading from some of the authors.

Just write a ****ing article, then run it through any old text-to-speech tool. I promise to read it with relish, and not complain.

A few complaints were pooh-pooh (mostly from the usual PCW techno-doofusses) but on the whole, mostly interesting and credible.

Sorry. Real journalism is dead -- almost everywhere. "Proofreading"...? Most of these writers have probably never heard of it, much less done it. I'd bet $50 that most of these "blips" were composed on smartphones, and sent to an "editor" to assemble. --Which is why so many journalists at PCW love Windows 8 and think it is a "revolutionary" improvement for Windows.

Seconded! ;)

They are occasionally amusing, but rarely useful. I would rather have content than tech-boutique and the whining of hopelessly green "tech-kiddies" who have no depth of experience from which to write. But, maybe that's just the direction that the venerable PCW has chosen to commit itself to... Sad

I don't know about Megan Geuss' experience with coffeemaker timers, bur NONE of the ones I've tried had battery backup for their clocks. Even the slightest power glitch sends the timer into lala land. I'd gladly pay a few bucks for an outlet that my PC can control.

Regarding Android 4.0 Tablets. Is there no minimum spec standard required when making an Android handset/tablet? I mean, that's a given with iOS and from what I understand Windows 7 phones must also comply with a minimum spec standard, to assure everyone has a consistent basic experience regardless of how rich they are.

This is the main reason why I ditched Android. My LG handset that is less than 1 years old is so sluggish. Just getting the Google homepage on the web browser was a hassle.

Open source or not, it would be in the best interest of Google and all handset manufacturers to agree to meet a minimum spec. A poor handset hurts the reputation of Android and therefore has the potential to hurt other manufacturers making handsets that use Android.

Having just attended CES and take it for what it is: big companies showing off what we already know and small companies hoping to get noticed. I would say to PCWorld to just stop going and then we won't be subjected to pointless slideshows like this.

Disagree by a mile. I also own both OS's, an iPad 1, 2, with IOS 5, iPod Touch, Samsung smartphone with Android 2.3 and briefly a Motorola Xoom with Android 3.0. Ditched the Android junk immediately, the tablet anyway. Only kept the phone since it is not my primary means of work or communication, but talk about unstable and, I might add, completely ripped off from IOS anyway.

As for the iPad not having any ports, what exactly is that docking port on there? I use a USB-to-Docking Port adapter all the time, not only to charge the thing, but to directly transfer files onto it. :)
