Hey LiveB,
Coincidentally I loaded the Pandora app yesterday on the Kindle, and I listened to music just now (Louis Armstrong) with both the built-in speakers and earbuds. I didn't pick up any of the muffled issues you're describing. I didn't try on my desktop or netbook, I figured I'd test the smallest device.

I thought free Pandora's bandwidth was something less than 128, but I'm not sure. I can't find a reference to it on their site.

I know the pay version is 192kbps anyway (I thought the free one was 128kbps). Youtube videos at 320p have 128kbps audio? I was listening to this

at 320p and didn't really notice any difference between that and an 192kbps mp3 of that song I have.
edit: Actually, maybe there is some difference. Again, it's in the higher drum tones. (This speaker set has a pretty good subwoofer, but it's not as good with higher tones.)

Anybody who listens to 128Kbs MP3's does not have the right to complain about it's Low Quality!!! If you want Quality music Rip to 320Kbs OR FLAC. If all you're concerned about is fitting 1 million No-Quality songs on a 10Gig HD, then rip to 128 or less.

I like Pandora, but I'm not willing to spend extra money to get the One version with higher quality audio.

And MLStrand, I agree, FLAC is the way to go in my opinion, but we're talking about streaming music from the internet.

Actually, they removed the limit for free users. (Well, it's 320 hours now, and how can you listen to it that much in one month?) I thought that it's impossible to tell the difference between a 320kbps or so mp3 and a loseless file, so you may as well save a little disk space. 192kbps sounds good enough though.

It's actually surprising how little damage compression does when you get to 192 and higher. Read http://www.pcworld.c..._you_think.html.
