Hey Karen, PC Magazine is, but I have never heard the rest of that stuff. Sounds like someone is ripping off account info and putting it out there so others can access things on another's account. Not good.

Yes it's legit. The idea is that you can bypass the stupid website registration things, though they don't let you bypass paywalls. People create accounts using emails like mailinator.com and then share them on purpose. pcworld.com is barred from the system, and forums.pcworld.com isn't and there's an account there, but I logged into it just to check and found that it had been banned.

Well, cnet implemented a "secure download" (aka we'll give you a bunch of crap and install it hoping you aren't looking via our own stupid installer when it would be easier for us to just give you the actual program's installer) thing, and for a while I was using bugmenot because you needed to login to use the regular download link. In fact, I submitted a login to bugmenot for cnet myself (I used 10minutemail to create it I think).

People make accounts specifically for BugMeNot, nobody using it is accessing someone else's private account. You have to submit the account information to BugMeNot and then others will be able to use it. It's sole purpose is to get around creating an account just to do something once like read an article or to decide if you want to create an account of your own. It wasn't designed with nefarious intent in mind.

Just once huh? That makes no sense to me....But then again, who am I to complain. I felt like a hacker when "I" checked it out. I do consider myself lucky, when it comes to FB....Glad I'm not involved.

Somebody said in an earlier post that it was a Disney thing. How am I supposed to know. No kids, except for a 2 1/2 year old Shar Pei and he doesn't watch Disney.
