I came across "BugMeNot" while surfing the net last night. This site gave me a list of Nic's and Password's, to get into Club Penguin, etc. I then went thru the list of sites in Google. PcMag came up and I signed in there also. Under someone else s account of course. Is this site legit? Has anyone else heard of this? Just.....curious.

Hey Karen, PC Magazine is, but I have never heard the rest of that stuff. Sounds like someone is ripping off account info and putting it out there so others can access things on another's account. Not good.

Yes it's legit. The idea is that you can bypass the stupid website registration things, though they don't let you bypass paywalls. People create accounts using emails like mailinator.com and then share them on purpose. pcworld.com is barred from the system, and forums.pcworld.com isn't and there's an account there, but I logged into it just to check and found that it had been banned.

"BugMeNot" is recommended by a PCW writer. The article is in the Feb2012 issue, and can also be found here... http://www.pcworld.c...s_annoying.html .

BugMeNot is a legitimate deal, but like Brian found out most accounts at forums are banned for spamming.

maybe, but I don't like it. The concept just doesn't sit well.

Well, cnet implemented a "secure download" (aka we'll give you a bunch of crap and install it hoping you aren't looking via our own stupid installer when it would be easier for us to just give you the actual program's installer) thing, and for a while I was using bugmenot because you needed to login to use the regular download link. In fact, I submitted a login to bugmenot for cnet myself (I used 10minutemail to create it I think).

Well, I think it's much controversial and not advisable. One more reason not to join sites such as Facebook. You wouldn't like your account to be used by some other guys, too, as when they do something wrong it's you who's gonna be held responsible. And Club Penguin is Disney's stuff for kids.

PS. Nineteen years ago, January 14th,Jan Heweliusz ferry, on it's way from Świnoujście to Ystad in Sweden, sank off the coast of Rugen island. The death toll was 55.

People make accounts specifically for BugMeNot, nobody using it is accessing someone else's private account. You have to submit the account information to BugMeNot and then others will be able to use it. It's sole purpose is to get around creating an account just to do something once like read an article or to decide if you want to create an account of your own. It wasn't designed with nefarious intent in mind.

Hmm... my rat knows how to use Firefox. (well, sorta... I selected the FF icon, and kept putting my rat next to the enter key on the keyboard until she stepped on it)
