Billing issues, horrendously outsourced customer service and many many broken promises. As for billing nightmares, there have been quite a few times and still this day they happen, you buy a game, you put in your information, you're charged for the game, yet the game never shows up. You call customer service, you can barely understand them and they may say that you were never infact charged, so you give your information again to verify. A second charge then shows up and you're told it may take up to 24 hours for the problem to be resolved. The game still doesn't show up and now you have not one but two charges on your account, you wait the 24 hours and the game still isn't there so you call back. This time you get someone telling you that there was an issue and that you should create a new Origin account and try again through the client, you ask about the 2 charges and they tell you that it could take 1-2 weeks for them to be reversed. (Basically a charge goes into limbo, sitting in EA's hands until they realize they haven't given you a game and then do a reversal.) You make a new account (if you're still trying at this point) and the third time is a charm. You now have not one but two accounts that have your games split amongst them and have had to pay three times for one game.
Unfortunately, this is not a rare story either as I've had 7 real life friends who have had this issues with games ranging from Spore for their kid to BF3 for themselves. I've heard the story throughout the world as well, so it's not exclusive to America. It appears that basically an account will lose the ability to have games put on it and the only way to buy new ones is to make a new account. It's a nightmare and a half and many people don't have the $150+ to put out towards one game if it happens, even if you'll eventually get the $100 back. And that's another thing, one person found only one of the original two charges returned, he contacted customer service again and they told him that they had supplied the game and returned the original charge. He logged in and still no game was there. He's still fighting to this day to get that $60 charge back.
As for broken promises, let's face it, EA promised this revolutionary service that would be annoyance free, well tested and would "Blow Steam out of the water...", "...Steam won't be in existence in a years time, mark my words." were two quotes given during beta testing interviews. The client is trash to use, is resource heavy at times and has been shown to be fairly intrusive in terms of security. At launch, many AV programs would spaz out over it and some had to be deactivated, though I'm sure this has been fixed by now.
In short, Origin is a statement by EA that they treat PC customers as criminals, making them jump through closely watched hoops that they designed, that are greased in gasoline and right as you jump through to purchase something, they are then lit on fire by a match. As it is right now, it's a terrible service that has been broken since launch and is generally bad for the PC side of the industry. If you are an EA partner or use EA as your publisher, wise up and either demand your game be allowed on Steam or break away from EA all-together.

By not including steam as part of the distribution plan EA has alienated a large percentage of the PC gaming community. I understand their desire to draw traffic to a new platform and through it market their products directly to a captive audience however, they've underestimated the enormity that is steam. It's a bit like trying to launch a new operating system and then asking why everyone is still using Windows.
Don't try to be the Microsoft of the gaming world. Instead, focus on being the Adobe of the gaming world and make your products available to the majority of end users regardless of their interface preference.
Our community will not be hosting any future Origin dependent as it is not cost effective to host games that are unavailable to the majority of our users through their preferred vendor. This is a loss for EA as most of our members are PC only and don't play on console at all. We have heard similar sentiments from other larger communities we are friendly with. I hope EA reads this and realizes that most people will vote with their wallet rather than their keyboard and that they may never know who much revenue they've missed out on by limiting the availability of their products.

I don't want to have my game assets spread around, I have already given up on certain assets stored in other digital distribution because of account problems, frustration with their software or because they closed.

I love ME and have been playing ME2 on Stream lately just to get in the mood for the release. But I will not be buying the game through Origin. They will lose my sale.

I initially wanted to give the Mass Effect series a try, but after finding this out, I'll pass.
