one can never make anything simple enough for users. For many anything other than a picture is confusing and yet to some of those users, the picture is confusing. Those forced to use text are in a real quandry. What do they do? Ask Google to simplify it even more by snail mailing a video... Still if security is really an issue for you, don't use the internet for sensative issues. At least until "Big Brother" catches up with technological issues.

Google offers most services for free but they're still a for-profit company. They make money off anything you give them. They keep track of your activities and customize your ad experience based on what they know about you. So, it's natural they would do anything to enhance those services and promote new ones even at the cost of privacy. If you want privacy, don't use Google, FaceBook, Twitter or any Network service.

people that assume any company is going to be holy than thou with yoru data are delusional and grade A+ stupid.

heres a perfect example, I have my own domain that i typically setup when signing up for services at websites like pcworld.com and macworld.com.

well i signed up for macworld since you all like to put the mac stuff here and no pc stuff there. a week later all of a sudden i started getting non macworld.com stuff at my macworld-com@<mydomain> so looks like you all sold my address to some one.

so basically even though macworld(owned by pcworld) says they wont sell my email address you all did. and i am now getting spam at that address.

We just have to take that extra step to log ourselves out of Google when we search the Web and clear out the browser cache on a regular basis
