I think you've missed a big step - Be Legal! Have a social media plan, including an HR plan and decisions made about your employees engagement on social media. Have some staff training, and review any of your employee accounts that might be exposed if they participate in your social media campaign. Make sure that YOU own your Twitter account, Facebook page, etc - especially when its set up by an employee or outside dev house. Get a legal opinion and help if there is any possibility that your social media updates need to be retained or screened. And finally, PRACTICE some updates, especially tweets, and try to have some standard responses ready. Listening and engagement does not always have to be ad-libbed.
