Because Seagate’s Momentus XT product line aligns with the support of PS3’s 2.5” SATA hard drive enclosure, one is able to purchase the Momentus XT and reap the benefits within their very own videogame console. While the advantages of Seagate’s Momentus XT product line will not be quite as evident within a PlayStation 3 as a computer, due to the limitations of the hardware and software within the videogame console, as one who has upgraded from the included 5400RPM hard drive, I can attest to noticeable speed improvements on any operation that relies on the use of the hard drive. Activities such as booting the console, installing software (demos, downloadable content, etc.), and loading data-intensive games revealed noticeably faster results without having to use a stopwatch, but to provide readers with a better understanding of how much of an improvement it has made, below you will find a few speed tests run on both the standard, included hard drive and Seagate’s Momentus XT.

Sure, in the past you had the ability to play against friends using online multiplayers. Rumour had it that even Microsoft was considering cross-platform play between the Xbox 360 and PC. However, Sony’s cross-play capability has lifted a restriction that we didn’t necessary give much attention to: portable vs. home consoles. The concept is so simple that it’s truly astounding that Nintendo hasn’t announced this ability for their gaming devices. In fact, it’s surprising that Nintendo didn’t put some extra money into R&D to make their WiiU controller their new portable device. But that’s a soapbox for a different day.

This is actually something I have been giving some thought to. The install time listed for grand Turismo seems to be a bit exagerated though. I can't say as I have had any installs that took that long. Nowhere close.
I Install from the disk though as I don't purchase game downloads.

The problem with this is that you have to purchase a VITA dedicated memory card in order to play it as they don't include one.

I was wondering: does sony void your warranty if you replaced the hard disk in the PS3? I mean that I like the idea of expanding room for more content, but wouldn't opening up the console go against sony's warranty?
I want to know because, I have just about enough money saved up to by a PS3 slim.
Thanks,
Al

Those things have a good sized Hdd to begin with, so no need. I have just about filled up my 80 Gb PS3.

I can say that the XMB is much snappier and responsive. Installs from disk don't show much improvement though. The bottleneck occurs with the Blu-Ray drive but playing games with a combo Blu-Ray/HDD game data loading scenario gives noticeable improvements. I'm using an older HDD product called a Hitachi Travelstar 7200RPM, 16MB Cache, 200GB HDD. I'd like to see a comparison with the HDD hybrid with one such as mine. Then we can see how these "hybrids" fair among traditional and solid state drives.

Ah, thanks for clearing that Ace. The 360 has upgradeable HDDs too, but they manufacture their own specifically made for the console. You can still use flash drives and external HDDs to back up and save data on the 360 though. I have noticed the PS3 uses parts that are much more similar to the PC. Anyway, I'm still trying to find the right bundle to start off, I was thinking of buying the 120gb Heavy Rain PS3 bundle, it looks promising...
BTW Ace, it looks like we no longer have to worry about anyone derailing our threads anymore. Let's make a toast to a totally new unjudgemental peaceful community! Also to Coastie and the beginning of a wonderful new friendship! Ha,ha,ha,ha

Actually, Ace knows what I mean by derailed. Gamepro's definition of derailed is different from PCworld's version. Back in our own forums, people used to derail other people's topics with flames, spam as well as pure stupidity.

If there’s one thing that many, many PS3 owners have been longing for, it was Dropbox support on their consoles. For those not familiar with the service, Dropbox allows users to upload files from their computers (movies, music, etc.), and then download those files from just about anywhere, and now that “anywhere” includes the PlayStation 3. Dropbox’s main site was previously unusable on the PlayStation 3, but is now fully functional (except for uploads from the PS3 itself, which may cause the system to freeze).
We tested everything from music to movies, all downloaded with no problems at all, and boy were the downloads fast! This is one incredible addition to the PS3 arsenal, and may very well have gone unnoticed by many. With Dropbox offering 2GB free just for signing up, folks will no longer have to worry about portable hard drives and USB thumb drives to move their content to their PS3… how cool is that!?
For all the gaming news you love, as well as awesome little gems that may fly under the radar like this one, be sure to stay tuned to TerminalGamer!

Proabably a good bundle. I played Heavy Rain and liked it, although it is a thinking gam,e and will drive you crazy. Every decision you make can really screw things up. Also didn't care for that motion sensor stuff either.

I heard it's an excellent game. You know, real life is also based on every decision you make. Your decisions can either give you success or can screw you up. Fortunately, I always make the perfect decision and so I hold no regrets. Money alone does not make you happy. We all need a little money in our lives and you have to admit that love alone is not the true means of survival. Owning big businesses, stocks, and running major corporations are the best means for supporting yourself. Buying and selling stocks help keep the economy moving, earning more to support yourself and your family. My father owns one of the biggest law firms in the whole country and even buys shares of stocks from big named companies. Money is no object to my father, I guess that's why my mother married him. Hahaha!

Performing the Recovery Mode won’t void any of the PS Vita’s warranty and it’s something you should keep in mind as it will be useful at some point. When in recovery mode, you can do the following:
- Restart the PS Vita
- Rebuild the Database
(If the system files of the handheld gets corrupted, rebuilding database is what you should be doing.)
- Format Memory Card
- Restore the PS Vita System
- Update System Software
Now, the question is, how do you access the Recovery Mode? Well, it’s simple!
– Turn OFF your PS Vita (Press Power Button for 10 seconds)
– Now press and hold “R” + Power + PS Button

To obtain trophies on your pre-owned Vita game, you will need to start by deleting the game data. I’m talking about the data on your home screen. To do this, hold the game icon until you see an elipses around the bubble. Tap it and you’ll see the option to delete it. Once it’s deleted, re-insert the game card and it will do a fresh install. After this the trophies will be usable and you will never encounter the problem every again.

-Run a PSP game on the Vita and make sure it creates a Save file.
-Once the save was created I was able to transfer it/them (might be multiple files) using Content Assistant Manager to my PC (Option PS Vita System to PC –> Applications –> Saved Data (PSP/Other), select appropriate files)
-Browse your PC till you find the folder where they were transferred (In my case, C:\Users\UserName\Documents\PS Vita), you should see them much like you see them on you PSP memory stick when browsing it on your computer.
-Now plug in your PSP with the real save files and simply copy and paste them over to the folder in which you backed up you Vita’s PSP save game and overwrite ALL FILES
-After the copying is completed and all files are overwritten, simply use the PS Vita and the Content Assistant Manager to transfer saves to PS Vita from PC (PC –> PS Vita System –> Applications –>Saved Data (PSP/Other) and select all).
And voila!
