Mk Im sitting here with a few options to pick from. In the past Ive always used AVG Free along with Spybot and Adaware but for the past while AVG seems to not find anything so Ive began trying out some other anti-virus software. I dont think Ill ever give up Spybot and Adaware since as many know they are just great at finding what theyre made to find. But I also have Trend Micro Titanium and Kaspersky 2012 that I got each with a new laptop I purchased after Christmas. Ones my moms other is mine so I grabbed both to compare how they are. Havent used them until the machines started slowing down and AVG could find nothing. I then got Comodo and found two trojans in the system restore folder that I got rid of (hindsight, should have kept them to see which antivirus would be able to find them for comparisons) now for other opinions Id like to know which of these antivirus's would be best to stick with. Also if spybot and adaware are still top-knotch or can be replaced with anything better. Also anything else I should get? Thanks!

I use Avast!(free version) or Microsoft Security Essentials. They both are (so far) efficient and not resource hogs... and both are free.

Hi Wes :
Spybot and Ad-Aware were the top 2 antispyware programs
several years ago . Nowadays they are no longer . The
top malware-fighting Experts now recommend firstly
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
( http://www.malwarebytes.org/products ) and secondly
"SUPERAntiSpware" ( http://www.superantispyware.com ),
BOTH of which come in a FREE version .
When it comes to "antiVIRUS" programs, I have been a
User of Avast's FREE Home Edition for several yrs .
IF you are interested in testing done by INDEPENDENT
RESEARCHERS, I recommend you check out the various
"Tests" done on the http://www.av-comparatives.org
website .

My first AV choice is Microsoft Security Essentials, followed by Avast free.

In two machines ( one desktop and one laptop running Vista ), I use Avast! & Webroot Spysweeper, in another ( this one ) I am using Avast! and the paid version of Superantispyware, and in my other laptop I am running MSE.

If you want paid AV, Eset Nod32 is really good.
But for the home, Microsoft Security Essentials is sufficient
Comodo Firewall is good when on public networks.
Even the experts started out as beginners
