It's basically between these two laptop (See links below)

Asus (With an upgraded i7 as well Windows 7)
http://www.xoticpc.c...?wconfigure=yes

Alienware-

http://configure.us....ienware-m17x-r3

From what i can see, the downside is that alienware's protection is pricy. Can you list below the pro's and con's of each and which one is the better buy. It look's like if you mimic the specs its only a hundred dollar difference. However if someone could just look them over or make another suggestion that would be wonderful.(Unbiased feedback please)

Also if someone could awnser this: Is there a way that i could buy the alienware (If i decided on it) but get protection elsewhere and put it on it?

Those protection plans are pointless. Chances are that if anything fails it'll fail during the warranty period, within a few months, or it'll last for many years without having a problem. Also, that first link is to an xoticpc - are you sure it's that?

MSI makes entry level machines meant to give people a lot of specs for their dollar, without the extras that make top tier machines. Alienware isn't exactly top tier, but they are very solid machines, typically well built and well designed. From the few I know who own them, they have expressed their intentions to continue doing so.
"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'" -- Isaac Asimov

I would go with Asus.

Now that Dell is making the Alienware. The quality has gone down hill. I have own before Dell bougth them out, than they were great laptops. Now with Dell, Alienware is not great.

I would recommand to stay away from Alienware.
Windows 8 is a useless OS that Microsoft released that has many flaws and bugs. DO NOT USE IT. Use Windows XP or Windows 7.

Both of these machines are made by ODM's. I believe Alienware is a barebones unit made by Compal and sold with the Dell Alienware brand name and is configureable. The top link is a MSI and not an Asus. Both MSI and Asus are ODM's that make their own brands but they also have other ODM's manufacture their brands. Clevo at one time made some models of Alienware but from what I read Compal does it now. Compal makes Dell's, HP's, Acer's and Toshiba's.

See story of who really makes laptops below. Dell doesn't make laptops they desing them and other manufacture them.

Asus is better than Ailenware. The link that goes to MSI is that the board might be MSI made.

Asus is a good company, while Alienware does put out good products, they are way over priced! Basically just HP computers with the Alienware name... When they first came out, they had "the best.

Alienware makes gaming machines and Asus makes all different types of machines in clusing gaming machines. I really like their 3rd generation i series laptops and if I was ready to purchase it would be an Asus. I've had luck with Acer but they have 0 laptops with big screens and resolution greated then 1600 x 900. MSI would be my second choice.
