Compared to Apple? Are you kidding me? It's...an apple! Not very creative, or even cool looking. I admit this new Windows logo is pretty bland, but give credit where it's due and be critical when it's fair. Apple's logo has ALWAYS been bland and lame.

So we actually care what a logo looks like instead of how the Operating System works performance wise? The things people complain about shock me.

This is PC World - a world that revolves around creating an impression in Starbucks.
Don't expect any commonsense regarding logo's!
Besides, it won't have a bitten apple on it - so it can't be any good .......
To disagree without being disagreeable is the art of debate. Simply because one has a strong opinion, it does not necessarily make an alternative opinion less valid.

There must be something in the air within the sealed building in Redmond, along with some kind of adulterated StarBucks coffee, that is affecting Microsoft employees--not only those in charge of the logo but also in the Operating System itself.

Funny how we are judging a multi billion dollar company by its ...logo. Pathetic.

I think it fits perfecting since windows 8 is revolved around "tiles" and metro design. But I guess since it doesn't look like an half eaten rotting apple then its a terrible idea.

What was wrong with the old logo? This one just looks terrible...

The new logo is not pleasing to the eye; at least not my eye. I hate the color, and the design dimensions are way out of proportion.
Looking at the past logos above I, by far, find the Windows 7 logo most pleasing. I guess as established as Windows is though, a catchy logo is no longer needed to sell the product.

What I find amazing is the media dictating flashy and fantastic logos that impress. All I want is the ability to identify a product. I want it simple and clean. Dazzling Logos only tell me that they are trying to hide something underneath it. I like the Windows 8 logo. I am not to sure if I will be too quick to get the product but the logo is good.

Use any color combination and it really doesn't matter?

I just created this:

That only took me 2 minutes in paint.net, and I'm not even a professional. I am not at all good at art. How is it that Microsoft can screw this up so badly then?

I like it. It follows the simplicity of the real Win8 logo but at the same time keeps the color scheme everyone knows and associates with Windows. The four primary colors are the highlight of the Windows flag and have been for 20 years, I see why they want to get rid of the flag, but the color is important to retain the identity of Windows.

I did a few changes and got this: (the colors are closer to the current logo, they were a bit too bright in the first example I made)

I completely agree with your ideas.

@LiveBrianD That was the first thing which came to my mind when I saw the new logo too. I like your current version a lot!
But as Microsoft wants a "both modern and classic" logo, I think your logo without the shine in between could be closer to the new original logo. You know, like, it'd be less of a compromise compared to the new logo. I wish we could push Microsoft to adopt such a logo..

What, with solid colors instead of a gradient? Hmm... they do seem to be trying to make things really simple in win8, but that would almost be a bit ugly. I was trying to make that a cross between the official win8 logo and the win7 logo, and the win7 one has lighter colors in the middle. And if it's supposed to be an actual window, well, doesn't the sun come in through the window? :D

Holy crap. I thought this would be about the technical requirements to get the sticker.

Instead, it's that they don't like the appearance of the sticker? Boo-hoo! Way to concentrate on the important stuff.

... Sorry, LiveBriandD, but that just hurts my eyes to look at. Too bright. It might look better on paper, but with a backlit display, it's awful.

Well, it looks like a brick wall. Hope not the one you bang your head against. And Microsoft people showed little creativity. But you shouldn't judge the book by the cover, too, and maybe this OS is gonna be better than its logo. Windows 7 is quite good all right, so...

How the logo looks is irrelevant. The OS well sell on its merits.
