Apple will drop it after this, it clearly shows the working conditions are some of the best in the world for this type of production work, so it actually enhances Apple's brand. I agree Tim should have just ignored the "haters", but now everyone knows the Foxconn employees are well respected and they lead great lives compared to sweatshop labor in the rest of the world.

Tim Cook is starting to shine, and his ability to "think different" will take Apple to the next level.

Apple has the margins and the means to do whatever it feels necessary to turn this situation into positive PR.

I can hardly wait for all the others, Motorola, Samsung, HTC and company to come under scrutiny and have to follow in Apple's footsteps while eating even farther into their single digit profit margins.

In the long run, this situation has the potential for hurting Apple's competitors much more than Apple itself.

The Foxcon working condition are immaculate and most American workers who saw the Nightline episode are going to compare their own place of employment with what they saw and realize how shabby their own working conditions are.

Foxconn is a model for what a modern assembly plant ought to be.

It's a shame, the press shows all that was wrong and the way the workers were treated. Then you see a part of the plant all cleaned up, then you assume that every thing is perfect.
Well I think you need to look at the history of business because what you see is not really what you see.
You don't see the real working conditions and how the workers are really treated weather or not they get proper bathroom breaks or medical attention when needed or any other decent human treatment.
When they get descent treatment is when all those businesses will move to another third world country. GREED

Of course, YOUR device was made in a clean factory where everything is perfect and workers go to work holding hands, chanting Happy-Happy-Joy-Joy in unison.

Apple or should I say Steve Job fanboys never fail to amaze me.

And as to the Editor of this article. For you saying Being quiet worked for Apple? . How freaking dare you?
You are suppose to be a responsible journalist Reporter of sorts.

How dare you put your own petty needs of owning an Iphone or Ipad up against human rights????

Sorry your little protective Apple illusionary bubble bursted.

You people should all be ashamed of yourselves!!
These are real people workin in these factories, not IBots.

And even Jon Stewart made fun of them puttin up nets to catch the people who tried to kill themselves jumpin out windows to get away from the increasing workloads and long work hours.

Yea, lets not treat the problem, lets just catch them so we can put them back to work!.

Shame on you all, didnt know the Steve jobs brain washing was so deep, hell the guy even tried to sue Woz, THE GREAT AND POWERFUL WOZ!!!!!!

Shows what a douche he was.

So let those words soak in a bit, and next time you IPeople decide to voice (type) your opinions.
Think before you hit that next key,.

That goes for you too Jared. As a journalist, you should know better.

God, some people, I swear!

Oh Great! I feel so dirty now.

The person I worshipped and revered has been exposed for what he rally was, thanks to the words of such a pure and innocent being as you. The devices I so enjoy are assembled by people who have made some choices and sacrifices in order to escape poverty instead of having those choices and sacrifices dictated to them as was the case for their parents, who had no hope of surmounting the poverty they were born into. Yes, I see now how unfair it all is. Those kids should be in their parent's basements playing video games and getting free meals, while still complaining how unfair life is.

Thank you, O innocent one, you who have not benefitted at all from such sad human rights violations, you who are so inspired by the wisdom of the talking head of Jon Stewart, for opening my eyes.

Just kidding!

Ummm... Wow. You've managed to turn an article about disgraceful acts against humanity into a war on stupid, congrats.

Firstly being silent did work for apple. It was huge for 3 days and then we'd all forget it and get distracted by the cat. Then doing the open thing just made people think more about it and more distrustful.

Secondly, he didn't put his "pretty" needs above human rights, he said they have better conditions than most people in their business.

Thirdly remember that you spout opinions not facts.

"The eventual demarcation of philosophy from science was made possible by the notion that philosophy's core was "theory of knowledge," a theory distinct from the sciences because it was their foundation… Without this idea of a "theory of knowledge," it is hard to imagine what "philosophy" could have been in the age of modern science." — Richard Rorty, Philosophy and the Mirror of Nature

Apple Does the Right Thing, But With Consequences
But in the case of Foxconn, I'm not sure that the openness is working out in Apple's favor. By providing more fodder, Apple is keeping the issue alive in the press, with no tangible benefit to its image. The petitions and calls for a boycott continue. Meanwhile, little attention is being paid to the other companies that employ Foxconn, such as Dell, HP and Microsoft.

I think this hits the nail squarely on the head. It's the right thing to do, but doesn't help Apple's image at all. Where are all the other companies that also use Foxconn to manufacture their products? They are remaining quiet because they know that it would be a bad P.R. move. This is, I think, a direct reflection of Tim Cook running Apple.
