Hi everyone. I recently built my computer and everything went great. Then outta no where i started up my computer and found that all 4 of my usb 3.0 ports have stopped working, all other usb ports still work. I have a EVGA Z68 FTW motherboard. Any help would be great.

Try uninstalling the usb 3 controller in device manager, removing the driver with it. Then restart, install the driver again (from the CD or evga's website), and reboot. Now do they work?

Does the bios say anything about a USB 3 controller? It's possible that the controller is simply defective and you need to RMA the board. (either things last for many years or they fail within a month or two it seems)

I thought Human interface devices such as keyboards and mice require low bandwidth and can operate with USB 1.0, while subsequent protocols are used for data transfer between computers and peripheral devices such as external hard drives, printers, scanners, fax machines and backup units.Any idea?

That's correct. However, USB 3 ports do not work AT ALL unless you install the proper driver for them.

Try using Linux since Linux supports Usb 3.0. Windows does not support Usb 3.0. You need special drivers to get Windows to detect Usb 3.0.

Does it work with Linux?
Windows 8 is a useless OS that Microsoft released that has many flaws and bugs. DO NOT USE IT. Use Windows XP or Windows 7.

No Windows doesn't need "special" drivers, it needs the freaking basic drivers that come with the motherboard. Unless, of course, you are going to try and tell me that my USB 3.0 isn't working because YOU know better.

Just thought I would point out that I double-checked - with Windows 7 and 8. No "special" anything, yet both my USB 3.0 ports are working perfectly...

The obvious suggestions have been mentioned. Check the BIOS to ensure they are still enabled as "super speed" mode. I know my Lenovo UEFI has options for various compatibility modes. Then reinstall the drivers. If neither one work, contact EVGA. Their support staff is amazing, and should be able to find a solution for you.

Hi. The article are citing is not really relevant to this situation. Yes, Windows 7 does not support. USB 3 "Natively" ( meaning no generic drivers ). Those are included with the motherboard and if you reinstall Windows, you would not have the use of USB 3 , until you installed the Motherboard drivers. It would appear that there is an issue of some sort with the motherboard. All the obvious solutions have been offered to no avail.

Guess what? That holds true for my sound card, SATA RAID controller, video card, webcam, SD card reader and my mouse.

SPECIAL drivers? Nope. The drivers that come direct from my manufacturer. Which btw - the OP already mentioned downloading. Nothing SPECIAL needed.

Hence the reason I suggested checking the bios to ensure that compatibility modes are OFF. Setting for super speed instead. That is one issue I have seen before with flaky drivers. The other is contact EVGA. EVGA has a kick ass support team, and will be all to happy to get a customer on the road again, so to speak.

I cited that article for waldojim. THere are no native support for USB 3.0 in winodws and need drivers for it. Linux supports it natively which the poster could try and this would rule out if the motherboard is the problem or drivers in Windows.

You contradicted yourself here. Again, there are NO USB 3.0 drivers in Windows 7, they have to come from the manufacturer's Driver's Disk for the Motherboard. Yeah, Linux may well rule out the motherboard........maybe, IF the drivers are bad, which is highly unlikely with EVGA, if that is the MOBO he has. As wj stated, they do have a top shelf support group.
